Yes it was a very good team, that Rex helped to dismantle, and then the last 3-5 years were utter shit.
I am certain we will. I truly believe that JD and Saleh sat down as they began working on the draft and decided that since the offense had been ignored for so long, the top picks of the 2021 draft HAD to be used on offense, and they would look for bargains and steals in the lower rounds for defense. Then in 2022, with the possible exceptions of an OL and TE, the top picks will be used on D and the lower round picks on offense. Then in 2023, if the two units are pretty equal, they'll take a more balanced approach to the draft. I think that was absolutely the right approach to take. The defense had some excellent talent, and the offense had practically none. If they had taken a balanced approach in 2021 the offense would still have been awful, and the D only a little better. Assuming that most of the key picks pan out, taking this approach should bear fruit sooner than trying to go balanced each year. I definitely think that an Edge will be drafted in the 1st round, a CB could get taken fairly high, a LB or two will be taken, and a S or two will be taken. I could see either a C or RT taken in the 1st round, a TE in the 2nd round, and an OG in round 2 or 3, and the rest of the draft going to D. JD may even sign a veteran TE in FA and not draft a TE, although that would surprise me.
