I think Darnold will be QB day 1. If guys like Wentz, Mariota, Winston, Dalton, Carr, Tannehill can be day 1 starters as rookies, no reason why Darnold can't.
i agree. And if he isnt ready, has to sit it wont be with Teddy starting 16, never mind 16 games. Thats ridiculous. Actually I find it hard to believe the Jets will cut Hack and keep Teddy on the roster. Hes too much of an injury risk.
I feel if Teddy can demonstrate that he can return to the form he was in Minn., then why not keep him around. All QB's get injured at some point in their careers. I recall there was this guy named Namath who did pretty well on bad knees. Still waiting for Hackenberg to demonstrate anything.
He was more pro ready. That doesn’t mean he was a better prospect, just that he was more prepared coming out of college to step into a pro system. Started 3 full years in college in a pro style offense. Didn’t need to learn how to take snaps from center, learn 3-5-7 step drops, turn his back to the defense during a drop, calling coverages at the line, etc. Sam may learn those in the coming months but Teddy never had to learn that stuff. Not better, not even close. Just more pro ready.
It depends on what we call a return to form. A lot of his game was played with his legs. Seems to me even If he returns it's will be a little different Teddy. And if Hack shows any improvement they have to decide who they'd rather have as the backup. Whatever Teddy proves this summer, your not getting over the fear that his knee will explode on the next play. As for Namath a drop back QB, behind a line that would do anything to keep him from getting hit and who's broken body could be carried by a special arm and mind is a different story
Look, there is no way I think he's more pro ready. Yes, he played more college games but he never had the game that Darnold has. Or the talent. So yes more experience but not so much under ready to play the NFL game. Not getting why Darnold has all those things to learn.

*sigh* There seems to be a disconnect. I believe it stems from the difference in people that watch football, can recognize what is going on and how to analyze it. And people that look at stat sheets and a 5min highlight clip on youtube and try to formulate an opinion using hyperbole. Meanwhile, Bowles hints at Teddy not even being able to throw at OTAs. I’m sure he’s ready for a career year though.
I don’t want to belabor the point but if you’ve watched college football over the last decade or so the number of college programs playing pro style offenses has been reduced to maybe a couple of dozen and while it’s true the NFL is moving more to some spread formations and RPOs, it’s still a different game. Helton started to implement more pro style formations into his offense BECAUSE he had Darnold but nothing like he’s go see in the NFL. The defenses are just to complex to go with one read offenses and the inability to change plays at the line based on formations. It takes time. I liked what Helton said about Darnold, that he had the football IQ to learn and adapt to the pro style but he’s not a finished product. And I think they could design an offense for Sam while he learns on the fly. He’s going to be great. He’s just not “pro ready” but who knows, maybe by September he will be.
Jets aren't cutting McCown or Darnold, so Teddy is fighting with Hackenberg for the last quarterback spot. It will be interesting to see which one wins the job.

Belabor. They're good points. Let him play when he's ready, no rush. He's just turning 21 and doesn't have a ton of games under his belt. Let him adjust, and mature a little more too.
This is why, if it’s close, the Jets have every incentive to start Bridgewater and drive up has value.
