coming off that leg injury Leon is a CHANCE....i disagree that teams will pony up $$ for a chance....he's in NY this year
I certainly do not want the Vikings late second round pick for Leon. If the Jets did not think Leon would be ready to play they would no have offered him a contract at all, since it is all business. Leon damn well better be a Jet. Brad Smith, Leon, and LT out there in the Seminole, fuggetaboutit.
If someone ponies up a 2nd for Leon (even a late 2nd), I don't even think there's a discussion to be had. He's gone. I love Leon, but a 2nd round pick for a running back coming off a broken leg? Think about it.
That's what most of these posters are talking about. What's the other factor? We signed a bench warmer? We have greene who got hurt twice last year and was fresh legged in middle of season which made hik look even better. He's yet to start for a whole season so we don't even know what to expect.
or that his agent wouldn't accept a reasonable offer last year...... and he'll be a free agent at the end of the season. :shit:
I understand the argument by some about Washington coming back from injury but you have just as much uncertainty if not more with a draft pick. If someone makes him a reasonable offer then the Jets match and can still pick up another back in the middle rounds of the draft. If someone makes him an offer that is too high then maybe they go for another back with the extra 2nd rounder.
Give me the second rounder. I don't mind if Leon returns, but honestly, I'd prefer the pick. An additional second rounder in such a deep draft's value cannot be overstated. You don't get many opportunities like this. Leon is fun to watch when healthy, but he's replaceable. We made the AFC Championship without him. And he's not the guy who gets us over the hump.
True, but he's a 3rd down back and a kick returner and we did get to the Championship game without him. He's not a full time, pro bowl back
Leon was offered a long term contract last season for about $5 million a year. His agent, using Darren Sproles' contract as a comparison demanded more money. The comparison in terms of what they do on the field was fine. The problem with the comparison was that Sproles was given the franchise tag which makes the salary the average of the top five salaried running backs from 2008. Leon Washington is not a top 5 NFL running back, he's a situational player. The contract demands were based on an unreasonable comparison. We have a number of important players who's contracts run out this year. I listed them in a previous post in this thread. Leon is one of those players, and probably one of the lowest, if not the lowest priority among them. If his agent continues to make unreasonable demands in 2011 he will not be re-signed and we won't get any compensation.
Couldn't agree with you more. Especially if we end up getting a high second-rounder for him. Leon + TJ + Greene < Greene + LT + 2nd rounder
Now that I think about it, we're probably better off hoping for a 2nd round pick for Leon. Next off-season we're probably going to lose him anyways. As a Leon fan, I still want him back for a run at the SB next season. I just think he makes us a lot more dangerous. If someone wants him for a 2nd rounder, I think we have to take it though.
How can you say that? You have know idea what Leon is going to do this year or what the 2nd round pick will be or do.Draft picks can bust,I think this whole board knows that better than most.
I agree with this mostly- If he goes there will be trouble, if he stays there will be double- Strike that and reverse it for me at least.
Id like to see him stay but in a draft like i would not mind a 2nd rounder. Hopefully the vikings dont take him and we can get a high second rounder. I trust Tannys drafting decisions so no matter what I feel we will get someone good. Maybe not leon good but a player whos atleast not coming off a major injury.
my thoughts exactly. For all you that want to draft somebody who MAY be "sick", he is already here. #29.
listen dude...i get the love for Leon....he's been huge for us. But it's tough to say what he'll be like after his rehab is complete....can Leon make the same cuts? Leon Washington is nothing more than a big "question mark" right now.
With all this talk about the vikings being a likely destination for Leon, I'd really rather keep him. The 30th pick in the 2nd round is practically a 3rd round pick. I couldn't argue with Leon possibly being worth a high 2nd round pick. Not so sure about the 62nd pick in the draft.
