So you're happy as long as it works out for us. There's four ways it could work out, you're forgetting the bad ones: 1. Leon stays and is terrible 2. Leon goes and the 2nd round pick is a major bust I really don't know if we should let Leon go or not. I loved him as a player, but Tanny seems like he wants that pick so I'm assuming he thinks Leon wont be the same.
as i posted in the other thread, remember that Leon would have been an UFA this season demanding huge coin. If he does indeed come back, what do you think will happen in 2011? you got it. we will cut him. we will not pay him. we will cry about the #2 we 'should' have gotten for him. edit: especially when the player we 'could' have gotten with that pick is tearing up the league.
The issue with Leon is we offered him his dough last year - now we have to pay up with heavy bonuses to 1. Revis, 2 Mangold 3 Dbrick 4 Harris 5 Braylon 6 Cromartie. Leon would be the 7th on this list.
ding ding ding....you just said it best, he was offered his cash last year and wanted more than he was worth. With that type of injury his burst is probably gone. With the additional second round pick the New York Jets select Dex McClluster from Ole Miss.....
A lot of those guys are on the last year of there contract, but not all of them. I do agree that Leon is probably the lowest priority of the guys currently in there last year. Last year of contract: 2010 Mangold Harris Ellis Edwards Cromartie Washington 2011 D'Brick Leonhard B. Thomas Pouha 2012 Revis Cotchery Keller Greene Jenkins Faneca Woody Moore I love Leon, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to get a 2nd rounder for him this year. If he isn't gone prior to the draft, I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved on draft day. edit: Here's the complete list from nyjetscap.com Code: Upcoming Free Agents 2010 Unrestricted Restricted Exclusive James Dearth Tony Richardson Jay Feely Marques Douglas Larry Izzo Ryan Fowler Kellen Clemens Eric Smith Brad Smith Leon Washington Drew Coleman James Ihedigbo Howard Green Braylon Edwards Wayne Hunter David Clowney 2011 Unrestricted Restricted Exclusive Shaun Ellis Nick Mangold Steve Weatherford David Harris Aundrae Allison Chauncey Washington Robert Turner Jason Davis Brannon Condren Nick Folk Antonio Cromartie Marquice Cole SJ Green Bo Smith TJ Conley Josh Mauga Larry Taylor Dan Gay Danny Woodhead Britt Davis Matt Kroul Michael Parenton Ty Steinkuhler Michael Turkovich 2012 Unrestricted Restricted Exclusive D'Brickashaw Ferguson Bryan Thomas Sione Pouha Jim Leonhard Ben Hartsock Dwight Lowery Erik Ainge Ropati Pitoitua TJ Conley Jamaal Westerman Kevin O'Connell Kenwin Cummings Matthew Mulligan Ezra Butler 2013 Unrestricted Restricted Exclusive Kris Jenkins Alan Faneca Damien Woody Darrelle Revis Jerricho Cotchery Vernon Gholston Brandon Moore Dustin Keller Mike DeVito Shonn Greene Matt Slauson Tanner Purdum Marcus Henry 2014 Unrestricted Restricted Exclusive Calvin Pace Mark Sanchez 2015 Unrestricted Restricted Exclusive Bart Scott
Losing Leon would be an EPIC failure on the part of this organization. Especially considering the fact that we have a young relatively unproven RB (Who I love) in Greene, Let go of our top RB, and signed a #3 RB whose name is bigger than his bite. ftr, Leon's agent gets blame here also because of last years debacle.
I don't know, if you had to sign all of these guys: Mangold Harris Ellis Edwards Cromartie Washington And Leon's agent was demanding too much money, don't you think taking a 2nd round pick for him would be reasonable?
I like Leon's personality and his game, but he is 28 coming off an injury. It would probably be wise to part ways with him for a 2nd.
Looking at this thread it makes me laugh when fans go on about players not being "loyal" to their teams
U all forgetting that LW had a very, very serious injury & it is possible which none of us know that he will not be the same LW now that he was before the injury. It is quite possible that the CS & FO have analyzed the situation & with the MDs have decided he will not be the old LW before the injury
I hope L.W. stays but the 2nd is a nice consolation prize. However,I would bet he will be a Jet in 2010.I don't think anyone is going to come off a seconf for all the reasons everyone here wants him to go.Deep draft, agent and coming off an injury will probably keep everyone away. The bright side is,we can transition tag him next year if he looks like the L.W. of old.
but even if he 'is' the same leon, we would never be able to keep him beyond 2010 and that's the point for tanny getting future value for him NOW. tanny is taking advantage of the uncapped year by tendering leon with a #2. otherwise leon would have been gone 2 months ago.
I hope the jets will match any offer for Leon. Letting their former team MVP go would be a huge mistake. A short time ago, Leon was our only playmaker.
I'm not sure Leon will be "gone" per se.....but the Jets certainly leveraged themselves better with the signing of LT. That 2nd round tender is looking better and better by the day.....i hope some team signs Leon to an offer sheet even moreso now.....and maybe pick up a HB in the middle rounds of the draft (McCluster?)
Yea let's get rid of a proven playmaker because he broke his leg. I broke same bone and I'm perfectly fine. Maybe we can draft a Gholston with that pick.
You have to realize it might be worth it to let him walk for the pick. There's no guarantee he can recover fully from that injury. If that gets exposed next year, then we get nothing for him. Might as well take the money and run.
