Fellas, I don't know the name of the bar and my step-daughter being the twenty-something that she is, she's hard to get ahold of even if it's my wife trying to reach her. But eventually I'll find out the name, if it's at all important. It might not even be a bar per se, it might have been a restaurant/bar she was in, I'm not sure. Anyway, I just couldn't believe he'd take the time to do that. Of course, it doesn't hurt that my step-daughter is quite attractive. Just figured I'd pass along the story. Even my wife says to me this morning, "You have to go online to that Jets chat place and tell all the guys about the phone call." I should tell her, "Yeah, and what am I gonna tell them? That I got to talk about the O-line for 10 seconds and you got on the f*cking phone and engaged him for 30 seconds going, "This is unbelievable, this is unbelievable!"
This was almost as good as running into Wayne Chrebet while standing in line at the Colisseum Deli across the highway from Hofstra last summer. I'm ordering one of their Black Forest Something-Or-Others on rye and the guy behind steps up and the clerk ways, "And what'll you have, Wayne?" I step aside and look to my right and I'm standing next to Chrebet! Like a stupid ass I don't even know what to say, but then I remember I just bought that brand new, white autograph ball in the morning and I've got it outside in my Tahoe. So I ask him, "Hey Wayne, I know you're on lunch break and I hate to bother you , but I've got a brand new ball outside and do you think you could sign it for me? If you don't want to at lunchtime, though, I'd understand." He says, "Sure, go get it." What a freakin' nice guy Wayne is. I even showed it to ThunderbirdJet that afternoon. What a trip and a half that was. Attending TC at Hofstra was a lot of fun. We'll have to get a couple of guys together this year.
That's freaking awesome 227! Yeah, like others have said already, this is what makes Penny so easy to root for. He has always been a class act. Waiting for his shot behind Vinny, playing seriously hurt, always saying the right things, offering to sacrifice money for the team's sake. All of those are great reasons to like the guy. My favorite reason though, and I know a lot of people beat him up for it, but his towel waving is my biggest reason to root for him. Sure, people clown on him for it, but here is the thing. How many guys who lose the rest of their season, are on the sidelines every week leading the cheering. Sure, it sounds goofy, but that is a team guy. How many guys bother to show up once their season is done? Of those that do show up, how many are just there in regular street clothes, like sweatshirts? Penny always comes to the games decked out in a Jets jacket and hat. He waves his towel. He encourages his replacements to be successful. That's the kind of guy I want to lead my team. And the classiness to stop and give a fan some time, on the phone no less, is just priceless. However, I still don't feel fully confident that he will be 100% again. That's not good. If anyone can do it, it's Penny, but I just don't want to count on it.
Yeah.... the Jets last year at Hofstra.... what a bummer. I've been so spolied having it 15 minutes away, and free no less! 227 has a fair number of autographs on that ball now.... we got together at a couple of TC sessions.... very nice guy. It would be cool to increase our TGG numbers at this year's TC, good idea 227! And what can you say about Chad.... the guy is all heart, but little shoulder. It's always nice to be able to root for Jets that are as easy to like as Penny is. Man.... remember Dec 2002? The furure looked SO freakin bright!
i had this happen once, except i was at the bar, and it was john abraham stumbling all over the place, and all he did when i tried to talk to him was slur out the exact words "have you seen my keys"
You have an extremely vivid imagination for a garden rake. It's things like this that bother me the most about his situation. He is the consummate professional, and is down to earth and in-touch and everything you really look for in a sports hero... and the odds are stacked against him. I will be rooting for him and hoping he does it, but Chad's injuries are getting to be heartbreaking.
The jets have a bunch of guys like chad, which is the way to go... Unlike the fish who are going the total opposite way.
100% correct, 51. You'd have thought the Dolphons would have learned their lesson by now with Ricky Williams. But no, they still reach out for the misfits, thinking they can somehow magically change them. It's either extreme arrogance or extreme stupidity.
