Yeah, he easily could. There's a lot of QBs worse than Geno out there. We've seen QBs like EJ Manuel, Brandon Weeden and Jimmy Clausen stink it up big time. Geno didn't play any worse than Fitz has in any of these games. I'm gonna go ahead and assume you were one of the troglodytes that wanted Geno to start his rookie year because "he can't be worse than Sanchez, right?" QBs need time to develop and they need pieces around them for support. People here would've given their left and right nut to have Wilson, Kap or Luck and none of them have looked good this year. Ugh. Geno just put up the same stats we get from a good day of Fitz with no run game to speak of and no practice reps with the starters and Mangold out. Do you not remember the last time we tried to play without Mangold?!?! Some of y'all need to grow up.
No, he can do worse than Geno, get scarred for life (like Kellen Clemens in a similar situation) and never turn into anything but toadshit behind center again. Could Petty be the great white hope? Sure, in your dreams and probably nowhere else. Geno, btw, is toast. He doesn't have the team behind him no matter what they're saying and he is afraid to go for it on the football field. Running out of bounds with the football down big late was like hiding under a pile of coats in the corner. Everybody saw that.
Dude, you just said we went from a 10 win team to an 8 win team and you're asking me how I know the result of something? The fuck?
If Geno plays the rest of the season , 8 wins would be a reach. We know what he is already. And even if Fitz didnt get hurt today , and we got crushed like we did , we're still much better going further with him at QB then with Geno or any scrapheap QB we could pick up. My beef with your post isnt about predictions. Its about the fact that you think making a WC appearance is no big feat. With Fitz at QB my confidence in this team going forward was pretty high. Now if he's lost for the season or even 6 weeks I cant see us at even .500 when he gets back. Geno is that bad.
why the hate low faith in Petty ? you talk like you know for a fact he is going to fail....He will start sooner then later and I hope to see you around here after!
lol bro no, I never wanted to draft Geno actually I was a huge fan of the QB we faced today.....Been a fan for 30 plus years and seen it all mostly all bad but I have faith in Petty and because that doesn't go well with you and othere I could care less.....this is a forum and I will put out my opinion that no one has to agree but respect just I like I did with you're post. BTW didn't know Mangold was the key to winning or losing lol yeah you're you said it, some do have to grow up
I don't think anyone is sure Petty will be really bad or really good. But the fact is that he came from a spread air-raid type offense similar to Geno. Those players need a couple years to even think about being successfull NFL players because the transition is so drastic. At this point, we'll never know what could've been with Geno because he doesn't understand the game all too well, but you can very easily ruin a quarterback by playing them too early. I'd love to see Petty play but I think it'd be more like Geno's rookie year than Andrew Luck or Russell Wilson's.
This is the weakest schedule we've had in years, in a year that there are very few actual contenders in the AFC. Whenever this happens, it always seems that the Jets are middling to below average and struggle to rise above the shit teams. So, no, in this particular year, I don't think backing into a WC spot would be any mean feat, although I do think it would be a sign of improvement.
I've been watching the mid to late round QB's for decades now and the fans are always all about "start him! he's the one!" but if he was the one he wouldn't have been a mid to late round pick in the first place. I'm just not falling for the same old routine again after the decades of watching it in the past. If Petty goes in and looks good that's great but I make that out to be maybe a 10% chance and probably not that much. Maybe given some time the odds go up but he was a 4th round pick for a reason. My definition of mid rounds at this point starts at the 37 pick.
The punt with 3 minutes left was mind blowing,Other then that I expect a rebound game at home against the Jaguars
I'd be pissed if they throw Petty to the wolves. For once I'd like the Jets to actually have a plan and stick with it when it comes to QBs. To have them think long term for once at the position.
I don't fucking get it. He's so good at things most QBs couldn't even dream of but he's in his third year in the NFL (probably around his 15th overall year of playing football) and he still doesn't know jack shit about playing the position. He can't be this stupid. Can he? He's the worst situational player I've ever seen. One of the sacks he took elicited the same reaction from me that the Marshall lateral and the Colts' fake punt did; sheer astonishment, stunned that I actually saw it happen in an NFL game. He kept rolling and rolling and you figured that he's just buying time to see if something gets open downfield and throw if away if it doesn't but he just fucking eats it IN BOUNDS no less and mopes around in the huddle to let 45 seconds run off the clock as if we were up by 14. I've seen so much to like from him physically and I want to think he can fix this but I honestly can't even believe how situationally unaware he is, he really is on another level. He's an elite idiot.
I'm not even sure why Fitz was out of the game. Put a splint on it, tape it up with some pain killers and lets go. I don't think Favre or Big Ben would have stood on the sidelines with this injury.
This was Terry Bradshaw in his first four seasons with the Steelers. I think the odds on a guy like that making it are about 1000-Terry Bradshaw.
Fitz is tough, he gets pummeled and gets back up consistently. This wasn't a matter of pain tolerance, and he even said that in his post game presser. Ligaments are necessary for body function (duh), in the same way that your knee loses stability when you tear your ACL, Fitz's thumb lost stability when he tore those ligaments. He physically couldn't wrap his left hand around the football, it's legitimately impossible. Think of a snapped rubber band; you can't wrap it around something even if you try to force it, it's snapped. If it was a pain tolerance thing I have no doubt he would've been out there, but when he came off the field after his 2 emergency snaps he looked like he was in sheer agony.
