The problem I have with this one is that anybody with said eyes could easily see this one coming and there were things that could have absolutely and realistically been done to at least try to prevent/overcome. This is why this time I have no sympathy. And I'm usually pretty patient and understanding. But this one is bad, and there is no excuse.
Say we get one season out of Rodgers, what next, another total rebuild, where's the long term planning, appart from win now lol
They’re gonna need to find a QB. I think that’s why they’ve been so stubborn with Zach. Their ultimate prayer was Rodgers bridged the team until Zach’s lightbulb turned on, but it’s clear that’s not happening
The season is over. Saleh can't coach offense. The only hope is that Aaron Rodgers will essentially take over the offense next season. He is more than a great QB. He is the OC when he is playing.
Having Wentz would not have helped. Saleh is the main problem. He can't coach offense. Hackett sucks, but the offense has no strategy, no plan. The Jets call running plays up the gut when the defense is anticipating run on every play! So pass..every play...until the defense is off-balance. If your QB can't pass, GET A DIFFERENT QB! If you watch other unbiased experts, they'll tell you there are many other problems that any experienced coach will see. The offense is stupid. As far as coaching on the offensive side of the ball, this staff can't find its ass with 2 hands. A great head coach gets in there and tells the OC what to do. Saleh either isn't doing it or is giving the OC a dumb offensive plan. Saleh has to change his offensive philosophy or nothing will change, unless they have a coach-like QB, like Rodgers, as QB.
I'm glad we didn't sign Wentz, but Matt Ryan was available too; I'd rather have him...or maybe Nick Foles.
Long term plan is out the window. Now we're in the phase every bad GM finds themselves in where they have to mortgage the future to try to save their jobs.
This is also why not getting Wentz immediately is so frustrating to me. Because in my mind, assuming the coaches can even slightly mesh with him he checks 4 big boxes. 1) Saves the bacon right here and now and while probably no Super Bowl at least gets you a playoff game and some good feelings of success. 2) Can stay around and help caddy whatever the Jets get, or don't get out of Aaron Rodgers. Perhaps even save the bacon again. 3) At his age there is no reason he couldn't lead the Jets into the post Rodgers era and be the veteran stopgap while they fumble around looking for the next great QB. 4) At whatever point they find the next greatest thing he could help with the transition and who knows... maybe even save the bacon for another time or two. This doesn't seem that hard to figure out. Obviously I'm missing something. They must have a personal dislike of Wentz or something.
Yeah I mean even if, (big if) Rodgers comes back on fire and plays next season someone would need to take over in 2025. The Jets had a unique opportunity to explore if Wentz could be that guy and he wanted a chance to show it. joe douglas sucks
he's a known locker room cancer who was kicked off 3 teams in 3 years straight and was unemployed until a dozen Qbs got injured
If we took his 2021 Indy #'s as his baseline performance level I would respectfully suggest it would be worth the roll of the dice that Saleh could work with him and even if he was slightly cancerous (whatever that means) I'm thinking that'd be better that whatever the clusterfuck we have now is labeled. The current situation is malignant. Wentz's 2021 performance level on the 2023 Jets and your winning a hell of a lot more than your losing.
Serious question: Who gives a shit about Zach's mental? If he has a breakdown, bench him or cut him. Meanwhile play the competent backup and try to win some football games before the entire defense has a breakdown.
You're right. It shouldn't matter but apparently to the Jets brass they really thought they could fix this kid and saw how fragile he was mentally.
Every knew: We should have signed a better backup in the offseason, or not let White go. When Rodgers went down we should have brought in one (or more) backups that week. Before the trade deadline, after continual crap fests, we should have signed a better backup. Heck there have even been multiple mid round rookie QBs from last draft that are having more success than us this season. Instead we singed one guy to the practice squad, who still sits there. Its one of the most incompetent things I've ever seen.
you know whats funny. the steelers are one of the best run franchises in the NFL. They chose to stick with pickett who is as bad as zach (if not worse) and trubisky and rudolph as backups and didn't make a move for dobbs or sign wentz. nobody is complaining about that though? this is every pass he threw past the sticks this week twitter.com/i/status/1726422837160817048
