Pretty funny angle, and it has some truth to it... But i'm a fan of Rosenhaus, he is probably the best Agent in the NFL, makes a lot of TV appearances to hear what he has to say about the business, etc.
He didn't leak it, he came right out and directly said it. I was a bit surprised to read that in this morning's Star-Ledger, actually. I suppose Rosenhaus can tell the press anything he wants to, but yeah, I could understand Mangini getting a little pissed and perhaps even calling him and asking him to consider not doing this in the future as a professional courtesy. Why? Because while it doesn't count for squat right now, it could be a major leak at midseason. Do we really want Rosenhaus shooting off his mouth revealing every detail of a team injury that happened to one of his clients right before our second Pats game, for example? There was no reason for Rosenhaus to tell this to reporters, other than the fact that he probably likes reading quotes of himself in the news because it calls attention to himself and keeps his name in the limelight so that other players repeatedly see his name over and over again and automatically connect this with someone who they need as their agent. Rosenhaus should STF up in the future.
At midseason you are no longer allowed to hide injuries without getting in some serious trouble. Now, it's meaningless as you say. Are we to worry that Minnesota might actual plan differently for Jones' 5 planned carries which will cause us to lose a preseason game?
really? So we wont see an undisclosed injury on the injury report at all this year like in seasons past... did not know that
I was gonna say..... that first post was a tough read!! I thought for a second that I was having problems reading on account of my low blood sugar level from being hungry..
Now. But if this were 3 weeks from now, and the Pats were coming, and Drew opened his trap, letting NE know that Jones would be out for the week, allowing them to game plan for just Leon, you'd be a lot more upset.
I thought they originally toughened up on that last year because of all the games that were being played. It's even tougher now http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/05/10/nfl-changes-injury-policy-to-require-more-disclosure/
Yeah, that's my point as well. Any agent with integrity should be professional (and smart) enough to respect the Jets' reasons for not wanting to get into details about an injury. I'm surprised Rosenhaus went this route. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that someone from the Jets called his office to ask that he try to put a lid on it in the future, just out of professional courtesy.
And now, after reviewing the policy change at the link Don provided, what Drew did was even worse than I thought. All a team has to do is declare whether an injury prevented a player from practicing, not what that injury is, or how long it will take to heal. This is still an important piece of strategy for head coaches, for the exact reason I talked about above. Sorry to all the Fantasy Football Fanatics out there, but tough shit. I really don't give a flying rat's ass whether your team tanks because a guy you started isn't playing this week. I care about my professional team that I follow every week of every season.
Rosenhaus always makes me think of that scene in Fletch: Receptionist: May I help you Dr...? Fletch: Oh, it's me, Dr. Rosenpenis. I'm just here to check out Alan Stanwyk's file. Receptionist: Dr. who? Fletch: Dr. Rosenrosen, I'm here to get to the records room. Receptionist: What was that name again? Fletch: It's Dr. Rosen, I want to check the records room. Receptionist: Dr. who? Fletch: Dr. Rosen. Where's the records room?
Agents need to STFU Agents should do their talking behind closed doors not to the Media. If Jones wants a mouth piece get a PR team like Paris. So which is worse calf or ankle sprain? I'm thinking ankle.
Dammit Alio and all this time you were losing sleep because of the dreadful performance of my fantasy football team. My feelings are hurt.... Oh and screw Drew Barrymore Rosenhaus, I know he's good at what he does but let the head coach disclose the injury news. I want to hear it from Mangini and if he doesn't tell you until Friday before the game even better....
