It's a theory, but it really makes no sense. Once you get away from reading posts on NYJ message boards, you'll see that he is still respected in the football world as a good LB in the 4-3. Jets fans are jaded- they boo and hate Pennington, and they will eventually boo and hate Clemens when they decide he's no good for them. Football people can easily look at tape to see how he has performed in the 3-4 up until the time he was IR'd. It's not a secret. An injury lessens his trade value more than being jammed into a system he doesnt belong in. He is the proverbial square peg in around hole that everyone has referred to. A team playing a 4-3 that has a decent DL will know he will be an asset to them. Once he takes a physical, they will know what his medical condition is. just because it isnt known by jets fans doesnt mean it wont be known by them, just as they know he will provide leadership and durability in a 4-3- something a lot of Jets fans seem to have forgotten in their desperate hope for a SB before they die...
Well, you've got it all figured out, so the debate is dead. We might as well close this thread now haha
I wonder if anyone has actually watched the game again and looked at him in the second half to see if his play was that much worse.
There is a big reason for players to want to keep injuries private. This is a league where so much money is on the line that respected coach's would cheat to get an edge, players take banned substances that probably will significantly reduce their lives and quality of life, players will look for and take any edge they can including working over opponents injuries. If I was an NFL player who had any kind of injury, I wouldn't want any person to know what it is or have any chance down the line to try and exploit it. I listened to the Vilma interview and he as much suggested this if you listened to him.
My premise for putting him on IR is that he's not really hurt. Benching him hurts him financially in the long run. Mangini keeps losing it puts him in a hot spot. For all we know JV doesn't even want to be there anymore. So why risk getting an actual bad injury and losing his trade value in a lost season, when they already know they want to part ways. Hmmm...unspecified injury to an unspecified knee, that John didn't even know he had. Oh right in the interview he said it was something he would have played through. Am I right? Who knows...sounds crazy, but so does video taping signals from the sidelines.
He's really hurt. He had a knee condition prior to being drafted, that lends itself to generating loose particles in the knee. It's a matter of can it be rehabbed w/out surgery, or just go in and clean it out.
Nah, i'm just going back on forth with you on it. It's all good. I know as little as you do about the actual goings on behind the scene. It would be easier for me to agree with you that there is something nefarious going on here. Could be though- mangina may turn out to be just as big a weasel as belicheat is.
Could be but since we don't have any evidence to suggest that pointing the finger looks like a fan hating on a coach for not winning enough. You have exactly the team a fan like you deserves.
Injuring his knee and possibly having surgery with a 6-9 month rehab hurts his trade value far more than being a bad fit for the 3-4. Everyone knows he wasn't a good fit in the 3-4 and chances are no 3-4 team would be interested in trading for him.Now the knee scares every team.
I think you've mistaken me for a Mangini hater. That's not the case at all. He has his system, and some players (locker room leaders) that don't fit his system. So lets assume the obvious: He wants to win. Lets reach a little and say he wants to replace one or more of those leaders without losing his team (which may be the case already), getting crucified by the media, and hurting the guy's chance to go somewhere else that he does fit in. If you bench him, you have him sitting on the sideline acting like a disgruntled teen. If you keep him out there he hurts your chance of winning. So as the boss you need to talk to the guy and let him know: "hey dude, you are great but, this is more than likely your last season here" How do those two come to terms with this, without creating this giant shit storm? What would you guys do?
The Mangini hating thing was a little inside joke to Jetcane. I don't buy for a minute that if Vilma wasn't hurt he would go on IR willingly. It's just not a resonable assumption regardless of how you spin it to make sense.
