what about trading lowery to j-ville? frankly, i would have kept woodhead and cut mc knight.

talk about a guy who gets yards, catches passes, and doesn't fumble.

yet, rex saw all that and cut him to pick up a couple of washed-up former ravens?

No, he's no lorenzo neal but he's also only in his 3rd year. I don't know why people think baker was so good. He never did anything that seemed impressive to me.

Seems to me if you have a very strong blocking FB and you want to run the ball a lot you should have him block a lot. I don't see us finding someone better than him at this point, especially for the price.

That is very true but those are unique cases just like their LB's who played FB...was it Vrabel & Klecko? I forget but that's because as you said they weren't cuttin it @ their position (anymore).

Look at Woodhead, Edleman, their strength was their size and speed.
He knew Edleman wasn't ever going to be a QB so he used his strengths.

That's what I mean by using a players strengths...

True, but those players have multiple strengths. Conner does one thing well, and it's at a position that is probably the least important on the football field.

That's fair. I wasn't a huge Baker fan, but I'm also not a huge Conner fan. Baker at least provides versatility where he can catch the ball out of the backfield at FB, which I think Sparano wants in his FB.

I still think Conner will make the team. He's still young, cheap, and on a team that wants to run the ball without many great run blockers. I just don't think he's as safe as everyone has thought.

A source said the plan was not to use Conner tonight but McKnight got hurt and they had to move Ganaway to tailback. #nyj

Two things about this. First, if the plan was not to use Conner tonight that's generally a thing reserved for "starters", no? Second, I thought Ganaway WAS a tailback. Was he moved to FB?

I know what you are saying, but I don't believe there is any position on a football field that can be considered "least important". JMO.

It's still a position on the field. TRich was great. I hope Conner becomes a great lead blocker and he's doing it for the Jets. But he's too inconsistent, especially as a pass blocker.

If you're going to be one-dimensional, you need to be elite at that dimension. We'll find out how the Jets truly feel next week. I think they keep him, but it wouldn't stun me if they cut him 2 days later for another fullback they like better.

I didn't get through this entire thread, so this may have been said. Sorry.

FB is not a glamor position that makes the ESPN highlight real. FB is more like Left Guard. As long as he's doing his job, you'll NEVER hear his name. Now, if he gets his one carry a game and breaks off a 40 yarder, then maybe.

Second, Shotty decided we were the greatest show on turf last year and threw the ball 99.738% of time. We only ran the ball 6 times last year (so it seems). Our ENTIRE running offense was MIA, not just The Terminator.

A quality FB is critical for a ground and pound team, and just as critical on special teams. Every time a special teamer get waxed it's usually Conner behind the hit.

But even Conner ain't big and bad enough for certain run plays (4th and 1, goal line, etc). That's when you'll see our JUMBO package where every player on the field weights 475 pounds.

our wideouts get open about as often as if they are 475 lbs.
