That's one of the real purposes of preseason. You find out what your guys do well, and what they don't do well. Then you make them do what they do well a lot and try to get them to improve on what needs improving.

Hes been here since 2010 I doubt the NYJETS were playing chemistry set with John Connor when he was called on 4th and 1. He was expected to make that yard and should have made that yard.

It adds to the fact that Conner is a pretty one-dimensional fullback, but that's not really Conner's job, and it shouldn't be how you evaluate him. But Conner isn't going to be cut because he can't convert on a 4th and 1, that's not his job. It would be a nice bonus, but his job is to block. And the offensive line wasn't helping out much either.

Maybe he's improving. He made a nice catch on a badly thrown Sanchez screen pass last game. He's a solid blocking fullback, but he's inconsistent. He's still young, so he can improve and become what the Jets hoped for. But he's the type of player that could possibly become expendable with a new offensive coach.

That's all I'm really going to say about that unless there's actual news Conner is in trouble because I've spent way too much time talking about this.

Maybe it's just creating a versatile roster spot...

No where have the JETS said that this is a permanent move. Maybe he just wore the white jersey (with a different number than he is listed as on the official roster...) to avoid confusion (like there was when Cromartie lined up at WR).

The logical thing to me is that the Jets like him as a backup LB and FB, so that they don't have to devote an additional roster spot to backup FB if they have a guy on the roster who can do it in addition to his normal responsibilities.

Connor's had his mistakes but he's been extremely effective on enough snaps to put him borderline top 5 in the FB rankings. As he gets more experience (and maybe with Sparano's simpler blocking scheme) he can become more consistent.

Even the biggest "power runners" in the game have been stopped for no gain when they've had poor blocking in front of them. Riggins, Csonka, Campbell, you name it.

On the 3rd and 1 play, it was ridiculous. The Jets had Moore, Hunter, Cumberland and Kerley lined up to the right of Mangold. That's 4. Add in Conner blocking out of the backfield, makes 5, and Slauson pulled, making a total of 6 blockers and they were stuffed by 4 Giants. All the Jets on that side got stood up and driven back.

On the 4th and one, Bernard turned Moore inside, ran him over and hit Conner in the backfield. With the leverage he had, there was no way Conner was going anywhere. For good measure, Rivers came in and wrapped him up.

LOL. I have GMC on ignore and I still have to read it cuz everyone responds. Wayne Hunter blew that 4th and 1 play. Please watch it again.

"Oh NO! HE HAS TO MAKE THAT YARD! It doesn't matter that he got grabbed before he even started moving forward because Hunter blew the block."

I think Conner is on the bubble, if only because I can't say for sure that they will carry five running backs and I don't see them cutting Greene, Powell, McKnight or Ganaway.

They've tried Baker, Ganaway and now Bellore at fullback. I'd say they're certainly assessing their options. If they add another back, perhaps a veteran, I'd say Conner's coat would be on a shoogly peg.

I can't imagine the Jets running a power offense without a traditional fullback for at least some situations... goal line and short yardage in particular.

That 4th and 1 can be attributed to the blocking up front. The Giants D-Line blew up the o-line. That can't happen in a power O.

because he drafted a guy ranked as the #3 overall (see previous post in this thread) FB in just his second season, and first as a starter, Rex doesn't know dick about the offensive side of the ball?

    Ok got it.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic lol, but if you aren't, Kyle Wilson is actually a good CB. I like him a lot he made significant improvements last year and might turn into a real good CB.

I like KW is in the slot too. He's a really good tackler for a corner. Unfortunately playing in the slot means you give up a lot of catches underneath for short gain. It looks worse on his numbers so people judge him harshly.

I love Conner as a fullback lead blocking but he shouldn't be running the ball practically at all. The occasional surprise play is fine but on 3rd and 1 a hand off to the fullback is terrible. He's also better then you would expect at catching screens.
