Maybe its just me but if you read what Sparano is saying, its effectively a non answer. And to me non answers mean absolutely nothing. Not to mention he actually suggest that the competition hasnt started yet "We're anxious to see Wayne get back and to see the competition get going at that point" Barring another injury to WFH, he WILL start week 1. Anyone who thinks theres even a chance we put Mark Sanchez on the field with an UDFA inexperienced rookie protecting him against Mario Williams is mistaken. Im not saying dont be hopeful, but its not going to happen. I absolutely promise
And ok I get it nobody likes Cimini So I ask you this, find me one Jets beatwriter who thinks Howard will beat out Hunter. And NO Steiny doesnt count, since his opinions mean as much as Incarcerated Bobs tweets
Why does what any flunkee beat writers have to say mean anything? They were all telling us for weeks how lazy and unimpressive Coples looked. I guess we should just take their word for anything. They don't know shit. They write stuff that is going to generate the most web hits. Besides, no one is saying Howard will beat out Hunter. We're saying that it's a joke to think Hunter has a strangle hold on the RT position right now.
You know who else said Coples looked unimpressive in camp ? Mike Pettine http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/jetsb...message_to_de_practice_4JJWQT0Zip4DUtei35oIfO And he explains why The beat reporters arent that stupid, they also talked about how our receiving corp looked gimp... Dont get me wrong Cimini can absolutely be an asshole, but these guys also know some shit
And they also know that wrecking their credibility means nobody is going to care what they say. I mean if not for beat writers how else are we supposed to get any news on the team? Steinys twitter? Or pretend that were experts from watching a preseason game where guys play for 4-8 minutes~ Again I understand the optimism for Howard, but I dont think there's a prayer in the world he gets the starting job. Especially since in the preseason game they were moving him around all over the place, which makes me further to believe that hes gonna be depth.
It's not a non-answer at all. If Wayne was a lock at RT he'd of said something to the effect of "He provides us depth across the line and possesses versatility." He very clearly said there is a competition and Wayne needs to get healthy for the competition to get underway. Obviously if Wayne isn't healthy there is no competition. How can there be a competition if your opponent is injured? The guy clearly said he's done enough to warrant a competition and once Wayne is healthy the competition for the spot begins.
except for the wonderful fact that I just watched Sparano's press conference in which he specifically said there is a competition once wayne gets healthy. did you just glaze over the word "competition"? What do you expect Sparano to say? Wayne sucks and his job is in jeapordy? He is praising Wayne because he's praising Howard...That's how these things work.
I took it to mean the same thing... that Hunter and Austin will be competing for the job. I thought it was pretty straight-forward, actually. The fact that he played left tackle in Baltimore is pretty irrelevant.
I believe he was left tackle in college as well. So I would imagine that in addition from lacking nfl experience, he lacks right tackle experience. I also read that he looked better @ left tackle than he did at right, although hes getting better.
And the fact remains that he is competing for the RT job. So what does that tell you about Wayne Hunter? "We’re anxious to get Wayne back and see the competition go at that point." -Tony Sparano, August 12th, 2012
Manish Mehta Austin Howard took 62 percent of first-team snaps at right tackle in 11on11s (18 of 29 snaps). Wayne Hunter took the rest. #nyj
Jets are sending a message and they should. They are prepping Howard in case they can't get someone. There isn't a competition anymore. Hunter has lost his job. If he plays with the first team at all this Sunday it will be a total facade.
