If you go to the USC/Virginia 2008 game on Youtube, you will see Sanchez throw a 60 yard touchdown pass IN THE AIR standing on his 45 yard line, 5 yards into the end zone.
7 sounds about right. The hail mary at the end was just a bad throw. He threw it too high and took about 5-10 yards off the length as a result. My guess is that Sanchez hasn't had to throw a hail mary since high school.
Pennington as a 1 was not meant to be an isult, i happen to love chad, but it is what it is, he had the weakest arm in the league so he is a 1, i am not basing this on all humans, juts NFL QB's.....also this poll was not created bc of the hail mary, bc i have him at a 7....also apologies to those of you who disagree with me as far as romo is concerned, i just feel his arm is avg, maybe im wrong maybe not
i agree with most of that except for brees, brees is an excellent qb, has terrific mechanics and accuracy, but as far as having a flat out gun, brees is around a 6 imo
The nice thing about playing outdoors in the Meadowlands is eventually we are going to find out what kind of arm Mark has. It looks like he throws a nice deep ball. Again I really haven't seen him throw to many of those tough mid range out passes that have to be zipped in. He cerainly has made several real good throws and he certainly looked real shaky on the mid range throws the last two weeks.
He had a few nice mid range throws against the texans, but your right, we have not seen him throw many, the 19 yd completion to edwards vs the fins was a good throw, but it was high
I'm not concerned about his arm because it looks adequate. He certainly isn't going to be throwing lazers like Faver, Flacco and Rothlisberger and he doesn't seem to have the ability to let it go time after time like Manning and hit spots deep all the time. He is going to run a WCO he isn't going to remind us of 98 Vinny.
When are Jets fans going to stop being infatuated with arm strength and start judging their QBs based on how good they play QB? Who cares about Sanchez's arm strength. His arm is good enough to play in the NFL. That is all that matters. For every good QB with a strong arm, there is a bad one. It's just not that important.
There is obviously a ton more to playing QB than just being able to chuck the ball. In addition to accuracy and having good economy of motion (quick release) there is also a thing known as anticipation that is perhaps the most important. Look at Phillip Rivers, on the poll above his arm should be a 5 AT MOST. He throws a lot of floaters. Having said all that, his placement is excellent and he may have the best anticipation in the league. Several times a game you will see him loft a pass that spends good 3-5 seconds in the air but it always comes down on target and hits the WR in stride. Romo at 5 seems about right, I've seen him play a lot and while his release is excellent and he can throw equally well from seemingly any position (regardless of how poorly his feet appear to be set) but in terms of arm strength we aren't talking about anything above average. For my money Sanchez is a 6 in terms of arm strength; he's not in the same league as a guy like Cutler (who can throw a strawberry through a battleship) but I give him the edge over Romo. What makes Sanchez work well is his both his accuracy as well as his NEARLY PERFECT technique. He doesn't get lazy or sloppy and I can't say as I've seen him misfire. So yeah, his arm isn't a cannon, but he has more than enough other skills to play the QB position well.
Jets fans overrate their QB's arm strength, while simultaneously underrating the importance of it, especially at Giant's Stadium, where wind is a factor. Romo does not have a problem throwing in Giants Stadium, well, in terms of actually throwing passes. Romo actually has a pretty good arm, but if you're going to say Romo is a 5, then Sanchez can be no higher than a 3. Sanchez has had a lot of trouble this year in general. NFL defenses are not stupid, they are not going to give you giant windows to throw into. Some of you guys act like it's impossible for a defense to react and play tight coverage.
It's something you have to get uses to, that was his first game playing in there with that wind. JUST SEE ELI. Everyone jumping off the "Sanchize" bandwagon, some of you are pathetic. It takes time, they don't practice in Giants stadium remember, he'll be fine just like Eli.
