http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2018/s...ns-hesitate-enter-draft-cleveland-commits-him I think the Browns will end up with a QB, but not Rosen and not Darnold. No way will it be Lamar Jackson, could it be Josh Allen or Baker Mayfield? And where does that leave the remaining QBs? Imagine the Jets, swooping in and grabbing Rosen via trade due to *gasp* character issues? They will be coming out come draft day. Sorry Rosen, you have to enter the draft at this stage of the game. UCLA hired Chip Kelly, you don't fit that offense.
Mccown and a 1st round QB makes the most sense...I don't see Mayfield or Jackson as pro quarterbacks neither are even mocked as going in the top ten...hopefully they can trade up for one of the top 3....signing a Cousins or another vet QB to a long term contract is the same old Jets kinda stuff..may get us 9 wins once in a while and a wild card berth..only guy I would be on board with is Bridgwater on a prove it kinda deal.
I like the idea of going QB in the 1st and then again in the 4th, maybe Kurt Benkert, Luke Falk or Riley Ferguson. Also, resign McCown on a one-year deal.
I still see potential in him. He is a 2nd Round pick too, so no need to give up just yet. He was considered a project when drafted. Not sure it would be wise to give up so fast. Petty, on the other hand, has had chances and clearly has gotten worse instead of better. Time to move on. Hack likely isn't the answer either, but I would give him 1 more year on the roster. Especially if they sign a veteran and draft a rookie QB as a I said.
Can't get down with 1st & 4th like that on QB. I'd consider using the 2nd rounder from Seattle to trade back in for a guy like Mayfield or Jackson. Rosen and Sam will be gone earlier IMO.
If we do wind up drafting Allen out of Wyoming , my ideal scenario would be to sign Alex Smith (will come way cheaper then Cousins ) and let Allen develop . Ideally I’d love McCown to retire and be hired as the QB coach . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If we go with a drafted qb I would keep mccown. He understands where he is at in his career. Smith might be more focused on his career
No thanks. As long as a vet is on the team, a rookie will never see the light of day with this coaching staff. Trade for Cousins or draft a QB first round and play him from day 1 and let him develop.
Because comparing a much more talented potential first round qb to a 4th round project qb like Petty is a good comparison. Try again...
A much more talented potential first round qb might be able to show something to make Bowles want to actually play him. Not sure what you are getting at
Luke Falk will not last into the 4th round, he is more pro ready than people give him credit for, he is more accurate and he has better mechanics than the super hyped top 3, he has not had any concussion issues like Rosen. Just because he's not running around the field like Frank Tarkenton doesn't mean he can't move in the pocket. The guy was a walk on and has done nothing but improve every year he started, the only criticism of him is that he can't throw the ball 70 yards, well guess what guys, throwing the ball 70 yards is not and never will be the bench mark by which QBs should be drafted. That's why Mac and this CS will screw this up again, they drafted Hack who could throw the ball 70 yards but doesn't come close to having every other tangible quality needed to be a pro QB. My solution for fixing this QB situation would be: Fire Todd Bowles and his staff. Hire an offensive minded HC who knows what to look for in a potential FQB. (Haley, O'Brien, Arians) Move on from Mcown and Petty Based on what the new offensive minded HC says he feels are important qualities in a QB and what he wants to work with in order to develope, then draft that guy. If he's selected by someone else, don't just draft a guy because Mel kiper says he's the next best thing since Montana, move on and draft oline help or BPA. Continue to build the team and select second best QB on jets board if he's still there and sign another FA to give the team depth. The San Francisco forty niners showed how it's done, Lynch gutted the roster and gave the veteran players their walking papers when they asked to be let go. (Bowman) Kyle Shannahan knew what to look for in a potential FQB, they traded for him and now the team is on the upswing. That would be my approach to handling the QB situation.
1. Fire Bowles. 2. Hire an offensive minded HC for the first time in over 2 decades and allow him to bring in whatever staff he sees fit to not only develop a young QB, but the young talent on this offense: Anderson, Enunwa, ASJ to a degree, McGuire & whoever is picked up via April's draft. 3. Depending on draft position and who the new staff likes, make the best educated guess/decision you can make in regards to the QB. If you're only high on Rosen/Darnold for Round 1 and will look to try and move back. You can then, hopefully, draft a young signal caller in Round 2 or back into the bottom of Round 1. 4. Re-sign McCown. 5. If you think your QB will be there, or you want to move up for him, take away No's. 3 and 4 and just go get him, but I'd also re-sign McCown. 6. Take out 3, 4 and 5 and give Kirk Cousins a 5 year deal around $25-30 million per, the going rate for QB's now. One of these options is how I'd do it, but it all boils down to Number 1. If Bowles and his people are still here, I don't know if any QB will pan out here, except for maybe a veteran like Cousins.
There would be much more outside pressure (i.e. ownership, GM, fans, media,...etc) to play a first round QB.
i sorta like all the above posts very much except when they start referring to Cousins as a savior over Josh mcGown In my opinion you dont have to get fancy at all ...just follow the formula of what 5 other teams have done with a young QB...PLAY THEM first Round talent means you have IMPACT on a team from day one ...in todays College Prep for the Pros world there are more NFL ready QBs ....this is the trend imo eg Winston Marriota luck etc etc Wentz and Goff had no "mentors" they stood in there a year and took their lumps...they DID have a CS in place who knew what they were doing and THAT was their job...no need to get an aging Vet in there to complicate things...thats just expensive, unnecessary and dumb (sorry) Joshy m has the skills an attitude and price tag that will help a FQB (if he needs it)...sack Bowles bring back McGown and get a offensive minded CS and they can do the rest Easy Peasy
