I think this set it up. 24M in guarantees won't get it done. Jets can front-load this deal big time. Cousins has a lot of football left in him, whats to say he doesn't create a HOF resume if a team is able to build around him? 3 strong years so far. To add, the unprofessionalism a year later; a notice sent out to the public; he increased the deal apparently, but we don't know: We don't know the #s, but I think the relationship was destroyed at some point. I think the Jets could get him for a decent price. I mean the Steelers have the top QB, WR and a bunch of d-line under contract.
Good post NC Kirk Cousins= 99 passer rating, TDs galore ...Snyder the Wash owner has continued to Franchise him making him a 125 million man in total compensation...hmmm is this owner as stupid as Woody? Gut says there must be some backstory why this is happening and a big caveat for all teams lining up to sign this Dude..maybe the teams 6-8 record and Wildcard Loss of 18-25 in 2015 has something to do with it i saw a stat on the Redskins strength of schedule for 2017 ..are you ready for this?? the Skins were #7 this year and Jets were #8!!!!!! Practically identical difficulty ,,,now compare teams ...who had the better team overall on offense AND defense . Yep I would give Washington the edge Toughest opponent : Eagles (Lost twice) rams(w) Chiefs(L) Cowboys(Lost twice) seahawks(L) vikings(L) saints(L) 8 Losses against good teams 1 Win against the Rams Cousins looks great against the easy opponents...but do some digging and he is pretty pedestrian against the Big Boys...so we pay him to take us to the Playoffs? SB? Not so fast.. So ladies and gents what makes you think if he switched teams Cousins would do ANY BETTER with the Jets??? Prob do worse Still ready to pay the man?? hehehhe
I didn't think they could tag him again? I'm of the opinion that even if they can't tag him he's going to play for a guaranteed yearly salary on one year options as long as he can for the Redskins.
from what I understand he can be franchised one more time for $34mil. I actually wouldn't be surprised if this was the case but Kirk is getting paid either way.
Wait, what? Washington is better than what the jets have on offense? No way. Kearse Robbie Enunwa ASJ are way better than Crowder, Ryan Grant, Josh Doctson and Vernon Davis. It isn’t even close IMO. He was also playing behind 5 JAGs on the OL. Our offense is absolutely better than theirs.
Also - there is no issue drafting a 2nd round qb in year 3 or 4 of the deal and let him sit behind Kirk to grow and learn.
If the Jets get Cousins, the Jets would need to address the offensive line, pass rush and secondary in the draft. Take a flyer on someone in like the 3rd or 4th.
Oh absolutely. My point was for taking someone 3-4 years down the road. This year they would absolutely need to address the OL
Not quite right..given the about same strength of schedule 2017 NFL Total Offense: Washington ranked 15th (5002) Jets ranked 24th (4637) Leaders : NE 5977 NO 5936 Pitt 5699 To me it's about a wash in talent on the Jets and the Skins...400 yards difference ...and McGown played very well...so who needs Cousins ..I don't Go read my previous post ...Cousins would presently be neither tremendously better but perhaps worse with Jets and our loser HC FTR I don'tthink his Agent would advise going to the Jets and the Johnsons if Cousins has SB dreams ...he will pull a Holmgren and say his wife won't move to NY ahahaha
Cousins played behind 5 JAGs the entire season. Your stats don’t include what the eye can see. If you gave cousins the jets weapons the difference is way more than 400 yards. Washington’s offense was better with worse than talent because of cousins. Did you even know who Ryan Grant was before the season started? He turned him into a serviceable WR. The weapons the NYJ have are immensely better. Let’s also not ignore that Under Bowles, two journeymen quarterbacks had their best statistical seasons ever. You can’t tell me it was the system either since we had two different OCs. Bowles can work with veteran QBs - he’s done it twice. I don’t trust him or anyone on the jets developing a young qb.
No argument that Cousins is good but it's a very poor long term strategy for the Jets imo Correct, Bowles sux at developing a kid but the answer is not to hire old guys who give you a better chance at winning.short term..we still need a FQB ...what if Cousins gets injured? Bowles has nothing to do with any improvement on the Offense..please ...his OCs took care of that while he screwed up the in game management...FTR Fitz actually regressed year two A lot can happen in Washington ...don't forget they can go out in free agency or draft some stud receivers for Kurt...lots of factors here whether he stays or leaves To me it's smarter to get rid of TB and replace him with a brilliant offensive coach...you know what ? Cousins Agent might actually like that
See, here is where I differ. I do think Kirk can be that FQB for the next 5-6 years. He is only 30 years old and if the Jets can build up that OL and keep him upright there is no reason for him not to be successful until that contract runs out. 3, 4 or even 5 years down the road is when I would draft my replacement QB and let him learn behind Cousins who would be a successful veteran to learn behind. If the Jets don't sign Cousins, fine. However, I am strongly, strongly against them giving up heaven and earth to move up and draft a guy who is a complete question mark when we do have the space to sign a QB like Cousins AND have will have 3 picks in the top 40. If one of the QBs falls to us at 5, 6 or 7 then fine - take them. You are strongly against Bowles being here, IMO Drafting a young QB means Bowles needs to be here for another 2 or 3 years minimum to see what his young kid can do. If they sign Cousins and the Jets fall flat on their face you can put the blame squarely on Bowles.
Not many do, but he's the best QB available in Free Agency and has done a pretty good job with very little weapons in Washington this season.
There's no reason, if Cousins is deemed the answer, why he shouldn't be given $40+ million in Year 1 of the deal. Make it nice and easy down the road for us, when the cap situation won't be in our favor as much.
Something that Big Cat brought up earlier was that, if this Cousins thing falls through Le'Veon Bell will still be out there. Having an All-Pro runner like that would certainly ease bringing up a rookie starting QB. Also Arians was mentioned, and if he wants to go into semi-retirement and play the Tom Moore role (like Tom Moore did in Indy and still does for Arians in AZ), that would be good for the team. Cousins would be a good pickup, as his numbers and performance has been more than above average. I'd definitely sign up for those numbers. His performance will likely be the same here because the talent differential between the NYJ/WAS doesn't appear to be that significant. And that brings me to my next question: can Mac actually build a team around any QB?
use the cap space to lock up any of our current players that you want to keep. forget cousins, go after what we need in free agency, like ol or pass rush or corner back or wide outs. draft a qb, center, rb, and bpa. heck, you could go long shot developental qb in 6th or 7th round. but, spending a boatload of money on a fa qb is too risky. one injury and you are left with what? do like the eagles and rollover cap money unless you can get useful guys at resonable prices. as long as you meet the cap floor, you can afford to hoard some money until somebody really worth a large contract hits the market.
