I 100% disagree. Maybe I'm being too lenient but I'm going to give Idzik a couple years and grade him on a curve. He wasn't given a clean slate, he has to first clean up the mess left for him then move on. I think he's doing a good job trying to clean up the mess and put out a good product on the field at the same time.
This is dead on. I buy into your plan regarding Garrard, but I think Geno starting this season is the best thing that could have happened for the Jets given the circumstance. The Jets need to evaluate Geno Smith, and decide if he is the QB of the future. If he is, the Jets win because they've got a QB for the next few years on a very cap friendly contract. If the Jets lose they've gotten a backup QB for a few years out of the #2 pick. Jets fans should be pretty happy they got the best QB prospect in the second round last year, and they're going to get a chance to see him play. Especially considering how abysmal Sanchez has been at the position lately.
and, they brought in brady Quinn, the guy who could not beat out tebow in Denver. that gives us " depth " , you know, just like the kind you get for your boat with an anchor...........:drunk:
Simms completed 54 percent with a TD/int ratio of 8-8 in college. This is the guy everyone is drooling over? Really?
This is a message board for fans to take their arguments seriously, and always has been. Maybe you should try to make one.
You give the guy high praise by saying mediocre. Drafting Smith and now signing Quinn adds a new definition to total brain f#ck.
yeah but did you see his epic 0 touchdown performance against 3rd stringers in the preseason?!?!?! dude is a lock to be better then smith or sanchez! im with you man. i dont get all this simms hype from a game where he did nothing but dump short passes against 3rd string defense. i know we arent accustomed to seeing turnover free qb play with more then 60% completions, but lets give it a rest with simms. i mean, if he was playing vs 1's those 2 passes he threw into defenders chests would have ended up as 2 ints including a pick 6
who woudl you have signed instead of quinn? i didnt realize there was some elite free agent QB sitting out there dying to play for us
I would have signed no one. Why compound the existing problem with useless Turds? But that's just me.
Why sign anyone else? Buffalo has 1-1/2 QBs, Packers have 1 QB and the Pats have just 2. The Jets had 5 on the team just Friday. McElroy whom they benched Sanchez for last year, Harrell whom some though would be Rogers backup, Simms who looked the best, Sanchez who they won't say if he will be out any games and the GM's pet Smith. Yet now I hear they may only dress shitty Smith and even shittier Quinn, are they truly trying to get the 1st pick in the draft, because all they are, all they have to do is say so and I'm fine with it so we can get a real QB.
because you need to field a full team? because its the NFL, tons of guys go down every week, and if 1 or 2 of your qbs gets hurt, you need a body to plug in? its not like the signed quinn to lead us to a 16-0 season
These points are logical. The one big variable in this mix though is Rex job security. If he feels that his job is on the line this season, he's going to put out the starting QB that can get him the most wins this season regardless of long-term development. If Geno can be a legit starting QB in 2-3 seasons, there's a very good chance Rex won't be HC when that time comes. We've seen fired HC move down to OC & DC jobs. Some of them go even lower than that (such as OL coach). Rex being an insider also knows this. For every coach facing the ax, there's a strong possibility that another HC gig will just never come again. With that in mind, I understand why he'd go with the QB he knows over the QB that's still unknown. It's not a knock on Rex or the Jets. The NFL overall has become a "NOW" league. Unless a coach is hired during the rebuilding phase, he can't be prioritizing long-term development over short-term wins ... unless ownership grants him jobs security. So if Rex has the final call on who can play, I'd expect him to stick with what makes him comfortable. Very few of us can gamble on the unknown with our job on the line.
That is why the Pats have only two QBs and the Packers have only one on the roster. Yet both those teams are playoff bound yet again and not worried at all.
Resuscitate TGG Versus the draft, getting rid of bloated contracts, picking some pretty good un drafted rookies. What kind of a measuring stick do you use.....and not one game played yet. Goodson was a very clever move.....he was taking a chance and it might still pay off. Passing judgement this early is quite a stretch and not worth much.
And people are acting like Idzik came in with all the draft picks available and endless amounts of cap space to a team loaded with young players on cheap contracts. He came into a mess, we all knew it would take a couple years to fully clean it, and people are complaining and want him let go before week 1 of the NFL season.
Bro, it's ONE GAME and they are playing on the side of caution. Calm down a bit and step away from the ledge. There's no way the Packers go into game 1 without a second QB, and chances are the Patriots will pick up a 3rd because there are times when backup QBs get hurt and if their 1 QB goes down they are screwed. Also you are wrong about Packers. They have Rodgers and Seneca Wallace on the roster. You can whine about this when game 1 comes, but right now you are just jumping the gun. No NFL team will go into a regular season game with 1 QB, and even just 2 is doubtful.
Here's my assessment. Sanchez and Geno were/are in a competition. Nothing has been resolved. Phase one - Sanchez looked sharp but made some idiotic plays. Geno was OK, but then got hurt. GMc got hurt. Phase two - Geno looked terrible. Sanchez got hurt. GMc still hurt. Phase three - Geno wins starting job because Sanchez is hurt. Simms plays well and steals QB3 job from GMc. Harrell signed to be emergency 3rd QB. Phase four - Quinn signed to be week 1 emergency 3rd string QB because Harrell sucks. Harrell cut. There really wasn't a competition because Geno and Sanchez's injuries, and because neither shined when given the limited opportunities they had. All that has been decided is that Geno will be starting week 1 as he is the best available QB right now. The QB competition is still ongoing as far as I can tell, and it will interesting/painful to see it play out once Sanchez gets healthy.
Ahh yet you haven't given this anytime to play out. Dressing only 1 QB is unheard of territory & frankly only dressing 2 guys is pretty risky as well. Just wait till that iffy Green Bay OL gets Rodgers banged up & Aging Brady gets hit just right. Suddenly these "genius" franchises will look pretty dumb. It just hasn't happened yet.
