Sorry but the line was definitely better last year with Kendall. I'm not saying he's a pro guard by a long shot. However having a vet on the line and keeping the chemistry they built up over last year would have made a difference. That in mind this team has to many other issues right now that it would have saved the season.
Chad's arm has not been the major problem, his decision making has been and a better running game and some time to thow would have helped him a little. The way the kendall situation was handled then getting rid of him and having no one to replcae him right before the start of the year had a major effect. Is it why we suck? it's not the sole reason but it's a major reason at least offensively. Our defense has been worse than our offense most of the year and that has been the main reason why we are so awful right now.
Our oline wasn't much better last year than our oline is this year, we had no run blocking last year even with Kendall, Kendall was good 2 years ago, now he is over the hill The way things were handled was bad but it definitely was time to get rid of Kendall and get something back for him
Kendall was rubbish 2 years ago. 3 years ago he played well as the final piece in a talented line, but since then he's contributed little to anyone.
That was a talent issue. Houston, Blaylock and Barlow weren't good and combined they averaged 2.9 YPC but behind the same OL Leon averaged 4.3 YPC. this year Leon is averaging 3.4 YPC.
First off, sample size is an issue when you are throwing stats out like this especially with the type of runner that he is, even when you are looking at this point last year he has more than double the carries. Secondly, another point is that Pennington played ridiculously better than he did this year. Our run blocking still sucked no matter who the running backs were, Kendall is a has been. Now if Bender can bring anything to the table than this point is even more stupid.
he had more carries but he was also running alot better and overall while other bacs were struggling he was running well and had a nice YPC. Chad didn't play alot better last year. He played better but he had more time to throw and his D, wasn't nearly as bad. At the halfway point last year Chad was: 126-218(58%), 1558 yds, 9 TDs, 8 INTs This year at the halfway point: 128-190(67%), 1317 yds, 9 TDs, 7 INTs he had more time to throw a year ago and when the D began to blow leads(Ten, Buf, Mia, Det) had was able to bounce back and finish them off(except Mia who blew it on their own). I also think the playcalling was alot more creative a year ago which helped the passing game but #s wise Chad is pretty much the same guy he was a year ago. Pete is not a PB player at this point but he's a heck of alot better than what we have and more important than that it was the way the Jets handle the entire situation.
I think the line will be good when they replace Clarke. They need a nasty player in that spot which will make Brick and Mangold even better. For the short term Clement is fine and Moore at this point is a long term solution. So they need to find a LG, I don't know if Bender has the talent but I would assume we will see him soon enough.
First of all, lets not make Kendall out to be a saint, like another person said he has been cut from 3 teams lot of which is because of his mouth, and Chad was great for 3 games and average for the rest, this year his numbers are much more inflated than last year. And bringing up the playcalling helps my point not yours. I am not saying that Clarke is better than or even equal to Kendall. What I am saying is that getting something for a guy that was clearly declining was the smart thing to do. And the difference in play between Kendall and Clarke would not have played up to the value that we got back for him.
What are you going to do in short yardage and redzone? The line has to get a push. You throw around stats and say how the line is as good as last year, but if you look at the same stats for Penny as last year you say he is atrocious this year. That is what is beautiful about stats you can spin them all you want. The bottom line is this was a major screw up because the guy they replaced him with is awful. That is the difference. If we still had Brooks Bollinger behind Penny, would it be a smart move to bench him for Brooks? Because we have Kellen, it is the right move. All you need to watch about the line is if the CS will run the ball on short yardage. If they don't and they think they have to go to the pass or trick play, then the line sucks and the CS knows it.
Clarke is junk. The line gets no push. All you need to know is the CS will not line up and run the ball when they need 1 or 2 yards. They either throw the ball or run a trick play. And if Chad has 9 td's this year and 9 last year at the same time, where are the missing TD's, oh yea we have 2 rushing this year and Chad has 1. This is on the O-line.
Assuming what you say is true, then are you saying our running games sucks more this year because Thomas Jones and his meager 3.8 ypc is worse then our running back by committee from last year?
We would have the same record if Kendall were here or not. I would prefer to be 1-7 without him. If he were here he might have tried to tear the clubhouse apart as well. We might have bigger problems then we do now.
Also, as one of Pennington's strengths (and something he probably needs more than most to be effective) at QB is selling the play action. The lack of a reliable running game this year has been the fault of the O line and I have no doubt that Kendall would have made a significant difference in improving us in this area which would in turn have benefited our passing game.
with Pete Kendall, the Jets are no better than 3-5 at this point. and that's being generous. No way this trade had any major effect on our current record. PK > AC, but not by much.:deadskins:
Penny and same stats as last year? By all means use them. I did not spin a thing. They just did not bolster your argument or you would have whipped them out in a heartbeat. If they proved me wrong, I would be happy to say the following: Trading the god that is Pete Kendall was a real disaster and the FO fucked up royally trading a 34 y/o washed up classless douchebag for a 4th rounder. Sorry, but that is just not the case. I watch the line as much as anyone. In short yardage they have mixed up gadget plays, QB sneaks, handoffs, and jump balls. Looks like they get push enough to get short yardage. Problem being is with the shitty QB most of the time the Jets are in 3rd and 6-7-8-9 or 10. Sorry if the few times they are in 3rd and short you think it is because of the oline. Maybe TJ is not the smash mouth runner. Other than have big muscles he is not a Jerome Bettis. I do not know the reason for the play calling. I suppose the C/S calls 15 dump offs in a row too. Sorry if you can not comprehend how getting rid of Pete Kendall was no big deal and that Chad absolutely sucks this year. Maybe you should watch what a real QB looks like and how he would improve a team instantly before arguing with me about nothing............... I am done with this thread as it is ridiculous anyway. Game #: 1. NE- enough said 2. Balt- McCarreins 3. Miami- Jets won 4. Buf- Chad sucked 5. NYG- Chad Sucked 6. Phil- Chad Sucked 7. Cin- Both Chad & D sucked. 8. Buf- Chad Sucked Find me one game where Pete Kendall makes a difference................ Please do it, otherwise thanks for playing.
