You build around a strong point in the center of the field. That player makes everybody in front of him and on either side a little bit better. Just the concept of having a surefooted tackler at safety is giving me the chills.
Mahomes is screwed. Normally I would say learning from Andy Reid is good for the kid but expectations are really high in KC and Alex Smith isn't exactly a popular guy in KC. They also gave up way too much for him. Around midseason once Smith starts struggling the crowds will be pressuring them to play Mahomes relentlessly. Reid will break, play the kid and Mahomes will fail. the best spot for him woulda been N.O. where he could've really sat on the bench and learned from Brees and Payton.
Reddick is not a good fit for the Jets imo. Mahomes probably wouldn't have any impact for a year or two. With the Jets' OL, I don't think McCaffrey would have had a big impact, and may have wound up injured. I think Adams will have a MUCH bigger impact than Howard.
Yea, cut a lot of guys who didn't contribute shit to anything last year. They all quit. Most of what little production the team DID get was from the young guys, not the vets, and those guys are still here. Addition by subtraction. - Can't argue on the QB point - disagree about having "no talent" at skill positions. No name brands, granted, but a decent amount of upside in some. - you mentioned the word "average" about 3 times. There are 32 teams I think. - Oline is certainly not great, but not total dog shit either. - agree on the edge rusher point Still, all that doesn't make you the worst roster in the NFL as was said last night.
Just because you have first round pick on one side does not make your roster better. I see 3 good players on defense Mo, Williams and Harris. I see 2 so-so on offense. Carpenter had a good year and Enunwa...that's it. You don't have any Pro Bowlers. Richardson, I still think is a talent but our idiot coach played him as a linebacker. No wonder he was pissed off last year. So going off last year Richardson is in flux. Could still be major player. But if Bowles plays him at LB he will have no impact at all.
right but the statement is they have the worst roster in the NFL. Even if I agreed with you that they only have 3 good players on defense, that's still more than what Chicago, San Francisco and Cleveland have on their defense

I was just repeating what the pundits said. I never thought about but after the free agency garbage Maccagnan picked up this off season there might be some validity to it. Just saying. Going off last year alone I would re do my previous post and say the Jets have one star player and that is Williams.
Can someone fill me in on the Chicago situation? I was at work for most of the draft last night. They traded up with San Fransisco , basically swapping spots 2 and 3, correct? That doesn't make any sense to me because if 49ers really wanted Trubisky, they would not have made the trade with Chicago, right? So why would the bears even bother trading up if it was obvious the 49ers weren't going to take him anyway? Not to mention they gave away a TON just to move up one spot, in which the team they traded with wasn't going to take their guy anyway. Am I missing something?
They needed a building block & somebody w. some leadership qualities...position be damned...perhaps leaning slightly toward offense...but who was there? Nobody would've blinked at OJ Howard & the pick would make alot of sense...but when 15 some odd teams pass on him too..that says something. Definitely gritting my teeth at the continued lack of offense in RD 1...but keep telling myself this was about a foundation not a specific position.
Obviously the 49ers told them they were trading the spot to someone else that was coming up to get Trubisky and the Bears panicked. Only the 49ers FO know if that was true or not. The Bears both helped us and hurt us at the same time with that move. They helped up because I doubt Adams makes it to 6 if they don't make the move but hurt us by pretty much killing any hope we had of moving out of the 6th pick.
There's only 2 proven paths to the Lombardi: A world class defense, or a world class QB. So unless you think Hackenberg is a world class franchise QB, then taking the Best Defensive Player Available (BDPA) is a wise choice. BDPA! New acronym
Plus didn't CBS or some other 'Power Ranking' guru say we had "the most talented roster in football" at the start of last season? Somehow we went from best to bust overnight!
I think the idea of not taking an early QB is combination of multiple factors. I'd imagine that Mac likes next year's QB class better and wants to see what he's got with Hack and Petty. If they do not pan out, it should mean an early pick next year. If Hackenburg breaks out at some point and starts doing good things then, that's a better result. I am generally all for trying to upgrade the QB position, because it is a crap shoot afterall, but you have to at least see what you have, and too many cooks in the kitchen can spoil the feast. I wonder if he regretted taking 4 QBs on the roster last year.
