How do they win the division? They win out, that's how, but I doubt they can do it. This game will hurt their morale for games to come.
The Jets need to CRUSH Miami. No doubt about it. They are so much better than them. Morale is down, but can be fixed quickly, or get much worse.
The Pats have the advantage right now but the division title is still in play. The Pats could easily lose to both Chicago or Green Bay, although the team does seem pretty focused right now. Green Bay also have a great passing attack so there is that. The Jets are playing Chicago and the Steelers and could lose either of those (or both as well). Miami could upset this week if the Jets aren't careful.
In reply to IImeandeanII.........I think I know what you mean. I was hoping I was wrong but the game last night exposed the Jets defense as overated. The philosophy and schemes may be there but that defense sorely lacks two pass rushers, LB depth and a speedy hard-hitting safety. A young DT is a need also. The Jets need to devote their entire 2011 draft for these needs. Rex needs the personel to run his defense, remember he inherited most of these players.... As far as this year goes next week vs the Dolphins is the season. If the Jets come out and kick butt then they are back in it. At this moment they are stunned and reeling but a win next week puts them at even keel....IMO.
If the Jets win out and the Pats drop 1 game there are two scenarios: 1) Pats lose to a divisional opponent = Jets win division on divisional record; 2) Pats lose to GB or Chicago = Pats win division on strength of schedule (presuming Indy & San Diego combine for more total wins than Houston & Denver).
anything could happen. we just need to take care of business. no one thought the browns were going to beat the pats. one game at a time. point is, no matter what...we have a chance as long as we get to the dance.
That many steps will probably not be needed. The Patriots would have a better strength of victory. Strength of victory is the 5th step. Strength of schedule is the 6th step. Addendum- to determine strength of victory quickly, you can choose to only look at the teams the Jets beat but the Patriots did not and vice versa. (Note: I am playing along with your above scenario where the Jets win out and the Patriots go 3-1 with a loss vs Chicago or Green Bay.) Jets beat Denver, Cleveland, and Houston. Patriots beat Baltimore, San Diego, and Indianapolis. If Chicago and Green Bay do not finish with identical records, for the Jets sake it would be better for the Patriots to lose to the one with the better record. It is not going to matter, though. I'm just putting this out there so people can get an idea of what strength of victory is all about. Strength of schedule is different. That's when you simply calculate an aggregate record for all of a team's opponents. With the strength of victory tie-breaker, only a team's felled foes are being considered.
You guys are crazy. You know how the NFL is this year. This loss is gonna make you stronger. As much as I think and hope the Pats run the table for the remainder of the schedule, anything can happpen. Remember that Browns game? This division is up for grabs between the Jets and The Pats.
Its highely unlikely, but they are most likely going to have to win out ( that means beating Pittsburgh, chicago, and miami ). Also, the Pats are going to have to lose at least once, but most likely twice.
Not necessarily. The great thing about the NFL (and sports in general) is you don't have time to let things linger. The Jets play again in 5 days against a squad that is going to be eager to beat them. We win, we're 10-3.
So here are the remaining games for both. The Patriots: I don't really know how good Chicago really is. I'm sure their defense is good but I think the Patriots offense is playing well right now, so I'm optimistic about that one. I think Green Bay will represent the bigger challenge to the Patriots. Rodgers is an excellent passer and that is certainly a weak link for the Patriots. Buffalo - In Buffalo. As long as it's not a blizzard, I think the Patriots will do better against them this time, particularly if the division is on the line. Miami in New England in January? I'll take my chances with that one. The Jets: The Jets should beat Miami but I could definitely see the Dolphins playing over their heads if the Jets let them. Sort of like their SuperBowl if they win. Pittsburgh - At Pittsburgh. A lot of injuries and their offensive line is a mess but they are a very tough out. Chicago - At Chicago. Again. I don't know how good Chicago really is. Buffalo - At Buffalo. The Jets should win that.
Maybe if they were a bunch of chicks on the rag, thank god they're not though. 1 beating and you act like this is some HS girls softball team, it's the fuckin NFL. Only sad thing is your post and lack of backbone.
^ agreed. Also, good to see some decent Patriots posters who have taken the high road. They have every right to troll the shit out of us after Monday and haven't.
Funny thing your first statement. I saw none of that in Rex's presser. He wasn't cocksure like normal but he certainly didn't whine and act like total pussy like these SOFJ's. It was one loss, a colossal failure for a franchise with a history of them, but the fact remains the team is still 9-3 with destiny in their hands. I am going to wait before another game like this for it to be a trend. That doesn't mean I am burying my head in the sand just the Jets don't face a QB that played all world.
Shit are you kidding, it is more fun for them to sit back and enjoy the meltdown of Jets fans. Look what many of the good posters here do, they go to Finheaven for a bunch of laughs. Sometimes it is funnier to sit back and watch the house burn rather than being in the middle, lighting the fire.
you know, what's interesting is if the jets and ravens finish 5 and 6th again (us 5th, them 6th)....and assuming both teams win, it'd be the pats vs the ravens and us vs the steelers. the ravens are by the biggest threat to the pats as far as beating them in foxborough. we'll see how it plays out but i'd take my chances with us @ jacksonville and then the steelers if we didn't win the division
