3 - It's the Patriots and I never feel comfortable playing them. Even though we have had mixed success against them the past few years, I am never comfortable until the clock reads 0:00 remaining in the game with the Jets ahead on the scoreboard. That said, the 45 - 3 game was a game where the Jets could not get out of their own way. Cut that crap out and this is a matchup neither side looks at as a walk in the park.
2 for me... I love the Jets but we match up really bad vs their strengths on O (route running WRs with an accurate passer + strong TEs) and I think we still don't have enough power/precision on O to beat what has become a not spectacular but solid D. That said if Sanchez pulls off an excellent performance we could have a chance... but especially with his shoulder I don't see it happening. Or maybe we sacrifice Ihedigbo/Cook and have him kill Brady on the first play of the game...
I am expecting a competitive game. I can see the Jets pulling out the win. But I think it is unlikely. Patriots at home in January are so tough. I'm at 2.
3 here. There's definitely a chance we can win, but it IS the Patriots. I feel it'll definitely not be like the 45-3 loss, and not the 28-14 win either. As Jets, we're going to give Belichick and the Patriots hell. We're going to put up a fight, and it's definitely not going to be easy for them. I'm 3 because I feel we can win it, but the Patriots can also. Belichick has to deal with us again now, and its going to be a good game.
I'm going with 3 and that's a generous dose. Anyone who says 4 is drinking green Kool Aid and anyone who says 5 is either taking something illegal or requiring a prescription. I'll add this to the confidence list: 8. We've recovered from the loss of field general Jim Leonhard, which is why the Pats were able to put 45 on us last time. The defense has jelled more since then. Just ask Peyton Manning. 9. Sanchez could not compliment the O-line enough in his presser Saturday night. The O-line's performance was huge for him in terms of his confidence level, the lack of which has caused him to get off to poor, slow starts. He was a different QB in the 2nd half when he was able to relax a little, think clearly, and throw more accurately. I don't think the Pats defense is much better than the Colts'. El Guappo needs to convince himself that the start of the Pats game is just an extension of the latter part of the Colts game. Continue on, methodically making 1st downs. The rest takes care of itself. 10. No team is invincible. A good study is the shitty Seattle Seahawks beating the SB Champion Saints by the same 11 points that they were underdogs under. That's a 22-point spread. Anything's possible.
Before the 45-3 drubbing - I firmly believed the Jets were the better overall football team. Top to bottom, even with the Pats at 14-2 - I still think the Jets are the better football team. I actually think Green Bay, Atlanta, Baltimore and Steelers are better than the Pats. Regardless of Sunday's outcome- the Pats are not winning the Superbowl this year. I think Brady is due to come down to earth (a little) and the Jets will win a close one.
Lol nice.............. I am having a difficult time envisioning the Jets closing a 40 point gap, so I had to vote 2, I am doubtful.
This game is a straight up toss up IMHO, and 99% of the time I get what Vegas is sayin'. For this game I don't. The only thing that I like is that we are in Foxboro. Otherwise, it's two tough teams that know each other well. Could go either way. I'm just hoping there are no injuries either way.
No way we see a blowout this time. Here are some reasons I think the Patriots will win out. 1. NE has scored 30+points in 8 straight games since the Cleveland/Mangini debacle. 2. Jets have only scored 30+ points in 3 games this year. (once with the JV, playing the Buffalo JV). 3. Jets managed just 17 points in Indy against a mediocre defense in ideal dome conditions. Jets win if NE is careless with the ball and/or gives up big special teams plays.
I don't think a win would be out of the question, but as it stands, a lot needs to go our way to make it happen. It won't be as easy to get stops against a team with as good a run game as the Pats, but when we do stop them, we better not show up flat off turnovers like we did in the first half yesterday. That's a death sentence.
Pats fan here. First post. I'm going to vote 2. I'm more like 2.5, but I can't vote 3, because I do think that the Pats are the better team. It's not a tossup, but the Jets definitely have a chance. Even though we've been stomping teams, in most games if 3 or 4 plays go the other way, it's a different story. I'm talking about turnovers, key stops, etc. If those plays go the Jet's' way, then you have a chance. Also, you have to do everything possible to not fall behind. If you're behind, especially by two touchdowns, I think it will be hard for you to come back. I don't like your chances with the game in Sanchez's hands. Our defense will get turnovers in that situation. Best-case scenario for Jets: You score first, and sustain long, minute-eating drives on the ground, so that Brady can't get on the field. Worst-case scenario for Jets: You are down 17-3 at the end of the first quarter. Good luck.
This is true. If the Jets defense can hold NE down then obviously a ball control approach will be effective. If NY falls down by 10+ at any point, the the ball control offense becomes very tough to rely on. Brady was asked a few weeks back on his weekly radio appearance "what defensive style is the most difficult to deal with?" Without hesitation he cited a defense that can get consistent pressure with their front four and drop linebackers into coverage. As examples, he referenced the Surtain/Thomas/Taylor Miami defenses of earlier days and of course the Superbowl Giants of '07. Maybe Rex will hang back like against Indy and try and bend/don't break? Might not be a bad idea.
I feel very confident!. Seriously, it's gonna be a great game. Good luck to guys. But not too much luck! May the better team win!
