Just because it's an opinion doesn't mean it's not stupid. Obviously your reading comprehension isn't top notch, so again, I'll reiterate. I have no problem with anyone picking the Jets to win. However, I think your opinion holds a lot more weight if you can say more then "we beat you in week 2, our players are awesome, your players like gay sex" which is pretty much what the argument has been this week.
I disagree. This will not be the toughest game of the year for the Jets. There were other teams that matched up against us better than the Pats do. The Pats have only one big gun, and that is the passing attack, and even that isn't a vertical passing attack it's a short to mid-range attack. Basically you aren't going to run on the Jets and you aren't going to beat us deep... those are two very big restrictions on an offense no matter where you are playing. The Jets on the other other hand have some very potent weapons on offense that can exploit the Pats weak pass defense. New York can also run the ball on the Patriots, so it stands to reason that they will be able to score and control time of possession. This is exactly what they did in Week 2 and it's exactly what the Browns did so successfully. Basically the Pats are a good passing team going up against a good pass defense. Other than that what can they count on here? They can't count on the running game and they can't count on their defense to consistently stop the Jets. This is not a good thing... and if you were an objective football fan you would be able to deduce that for yourself.
We had success running on Pittsburgh, San Diego, Baltimore, and Minnesota. It's no sure thing that you will be able to stop the run in this game. As for big plays, they have had 36 plays of 20+ yards, and the Jets, with all their potent weapons, have exactly one more. Not exactly a huge advantage there. I also think your confidence in the 13th ranked pass defense might be a little over the top, especially without your best safety. How many players in your secondary can you really consider better then average? Revis, Cromartie, and then who? To compound this problem, anyone who is being honest knows over the course of his career Cromartie has struggled with short shifty recievers like the ones the Patriots have. Maybe he'll have a great game tonight, but that's not what history suggests. I'd also like to know who's offense matches up better against you. A banged up Packers? Or the inconsistent Texans? They don't present nearly the same amount of problems as this offense. I understand why you would feel so good about facing the 32nd ranked passing offense, but I think any Jets fan would admit that the passing game hasn't been consistent this year, and the Patriots are too good to get away with playing like crap for a couple of quarters. There is a pretty good chance the Patriots are gonna score a lot tonight, and if they do that's gonna put a lot of pressure on Sanchez to be perfect tonight. Can he rise to the occasion? Maybe, but my personal feeling is that if he has to drop back 35+ plus times, he will certainly move the ball and get some stats, but he's also miss some throws, maybe have a turnover or two, and probably come up short. But hey, I've been wrong before.
Pats will not put up many points unless their D or ST puts up points. The Jets D has owned the Pats since Rex has been here. All 4 games. You put up points game 2 last year because Sanchez had a 4 pick game. If Sanchez plays average Pats are in for a long night.
it's not just the poor passing defense of the pats, it's the poor rushing defense, the historically bad 3rd down defense (yes historically bad), it's the lack of a vertical game, and the lack of a proven runner. The Pats can throw the ball, but if the jets run it and move the chains on 3rd down (which the Pats allow more than 50% of the time) they will eat up huge chunks of clock and control the game. If the Jets get too cute - which they did opening night and against the packers when they had a lot of time to prep - they will probably struggle to find a rhythm. The Jets tend to out scheme themselves. If they do they will have some quick drives and stalled drives. Question is if you win the toss do you take the ball first and try to run it down their throat to open the game and kill the crowd??
I expect this game to play out very much like the Jets/Broncos game. McDaniels basically runs the same offense and has a crappy D like the Pats.
I would still defer...the only thing that scares me is the Pats getting the ball to start the 2nd half. I dont want to see the Brady get some points right before half and then get the ball right back and get on a roll.
I'd feel a lot better about our chances with the scrappy little white guy in the lineup. Dude has heart.
As long as rex here and the perception is we have a big time D he will always defer. I love getting the ball to begint he 2nd half.
Right now the Patriots are running a very different offense then the one the Jets have faced the last 3 times they played. They match up much better with the 3WR and Brady always in the shotgun offense as opposed to the 2TE and consistent running game offense they currently employ. You think the Jets are gonna win because they can move the ball through the air and convert on third downs? Every team the Pats have faced this year has been able to do that, and they still keep winning games.
I love getting the ball also to start the third - you can either keep momentum going or change it with that possession. I still get nervous with Brady getting the ball first...same way you hate Manning having it with 2 minutes to go ...well not this season lol.
