Another point that would put McDaniels in the pool of candidates. Last point - I seem to remember that Al Davis was a fan of Bill Belichick and regrets not hiring him when he had the chance. Of course, that was before the tuck rule game and Moss tampering charges.
I have to agree with Harpua, you can't have an ego as big as McDaniels does and work with Al Davis. It would be worse than Kiffin. If Hue Jackson doesn't get the 49ers job I bet he'll be promoted to Head Coach. I think he can be pretty successful too, if Davis can resist the urge to fuck up their roster.
And you're both missing the point. Why on earth do I care who would be a good fit for the Raiders? That's not what I was saying at all. My point was that Josh McDaniels is almost a perfect match to the type of coach that Al Davis typically hires, so I said I wouldn't be at all surprised if he were a candidate for that job.
I'd say that this was right on cue, but it's dated two days ago. And there's no way for me to prove that I hadn't read this before posting what I did. . . But, anyhooo
Al Davis is the anti christ............ it's like he couldn't stand his team to actually go in the right direction again so he had to fuck it up
I'm hoping Al Davis hires Art Shell for a 3rd time. this is your last chance, Art. Just win baby! *drools* *falls asleep*
Its official: Cable is gone: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5989707 What a joke this franchise is.
My point isn't that McDaniels would be a bad fit for Oakland, it's that Oakland will never actually hire him. Al Davis is far more likely to hire someone who won't try to change Oakland's fucked up culture, who will walk the company line, and who won't challenge Davis' authority than he is to hire someone like McDaniels. That's the whole reason that they replaced Lane Kiffin with Tom Cable in the first place. I guess it's possible that Crazy Al falls in love with McDaniels, but I'm pretty sure that the job will go either to Hue Jackson or to someone completely off the radar (remember, the last time that they were looking for a coach Davis considered both Kevin Gilbride and Jim Fassel--not exactly A-listers.)
Raiders players are bashing the firing: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...-Tom-Cable-s-departure-A-terri?urn=nfl-303709 First, let's hear from punter Shane Lechler(notes), who has been with the Raiders for 11 years and made the Pro Bowl in six of them. He talked to Kate Longworth of CSN Bay Area on Tuesday, and he's not happy with recent developments. "I just looked at my wife and said, 'I can't go through another head coach.' This will be six now in 12 years, and it's not fun. [...] I think this is going to be a huge setback for us, to tell you the truth. "Tom was good at how he handled the whole 'dealing with Al' and all that situation. He was one of the better coaches I had at handling that part of it, and not letting that part of it bother the football team. "I seriously have a hard time believing that we're not going to now lose some very key free agent guys. I think now you'll probably see people like Robert Gallery(notes) go on to another team. Probably Michael Bush(notes). Probably a handful of guys that we really, really need back here. "I'm not so sure -- and I don't mind saying it, I've been here long enough -- I'm not so sure this wasn't a terrible decision."
