http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/years/2003 Sure, you can cherry pick Troy Polamalu and Willis McGahee, but I'd rather have DROB than Jerome McDougle and Andre Woolfork, or Bryant Johnson and William Joseph, or even Ty Warren and Kwame Harris. Yes, we did give up a lot to get DROB, but he is NO BUST!
Remember Derrick Blaylock dominated behind that line. I know the line isn't as good as it was before, but Johnson is a little overrated IMO (still a very, very good back though).
And where our we now? Hobson has much more value to this team then Boldin would. Boldin would give us too many receiving targets to spread the ball around. And yes that is a problem. Hindsight is 20/20. Everyone loved the Robertson pick, and no one can deny that. There's a reason he was nicknamed Baby Sapp. He was a physically dominating presence out of college and has since adapted very well. Sadly, he isn't the problem. Vilma is struggling to fill gaps, but I think we have to give him a pass due to the complex system. Kimo has been awful. Robertson and Ellis have been holding down the line for the good parts of the season. Ellis is really getting overlooked here, since while Robertson and Kimo struggled, he has been excellent all season long.
Personally, I think Robertson has been fantastic lately, and had one of his better games of the season yesterday. Hes gotta be high in the running for team defensive MVP, probably along with Hobson and Thomas (is it just me, or has Thomas elevated his game since he got paid? Its usually the other way around, but I feel like hes had a great stretch since then). As for Rhodes... talented player, glad weve got him, but I feel like hes been taking too many chances, I think his egos a bit inflated and hes obsessed with going for the big play. If I recall, it was Rhodes who bit on the pump fake to Lee Evans and came up to go for the pick, rather than staying behind him to prevent the sixty yard touchdown two weeks ago. If you noticed this last week, on the Vikings late-game hail mary, Troy Williamson almost caught it because Rhodes was trying for the interception instead of batting it down the way your told to, because he wants his stat sheet to look pretty. Talented player, but I feel like since hes been getting noticed, Ive been seeing this sort of thing more and more.
I can easily deny that...I continually said I wanted Ty Warren and Boss Bailey. Now, Bailey has been very injury prone and at times not playing so well. The Bailey pick would of been pretty bad considering he is injured alot...
