I do remember how much better Jenkins played in the first BUF game and how important that was. But look at it this way, maybe with the 4-3 we won't be dependent on one single player, Jenkins, playing at an MVP level to win.
BT needs to be cut, he gets paid too much for his performance. At the very least he needs to take a pay cut. I don't think K. Coleman would start if we went to a 4-3 and if did make that switch he could back up at 2 positions, DT and DE. Gholston will be vastly better at DE then LB, a position at which he is hopeless. I'm not committed to making the switch, I just think our personnel would be equally good at both. Who we draft might change that.
I was refering to passing downs--in the sunday nite game v. the giants the cowboys played 4 down lineman (hand on the ground) on passing downs and had 6 sacks----the point is simple minds like yours insist on playing the 3-4 just because we HAVE played it--if it is working so well then how does Buffalo put up 27 points on the road with their backup QB against us after scoring 2 field goals the previous 2 games--Give the 3-4 time, right? Sure, we have only played it for THREE YEARS, maybe after another 3 we'll "hold" superstars like Losman, Thigpen, and Hill under 20 points--No wonder your handle is "insanity!" (there is help available for you).
Jenkins went to the Pro Bowl as a 4-3 DT and this was his first year in the 3-4 smartass. All our players can play the 4-3 just fine. It's not the base scheme, it's the coaching. If we had good coaching in place it would not matter what we're running, and in fact, we'd probably use a mix. Also, we did use the 4-3 base a few times yesterday, so don't act like it's impossible. I like Quack's explanation, it's the best I've seen on the net and looks totally spot on. I didn't read all of it admittedly, but I will go back and read it more later. Quack should probably be coaching instead of Mangini and Sutton.
What we really should do is have all 7 just standing around in front of the line, then randomly choose who goes and who is in coverage. All our players aside from Jenkins are essentially interchangeable anyways. We did something like that maybe on 1 or 2 plays earlier in the season and that's it. Maybe we'll bust it out for the playoffs, or Sutton just forgot.
This is exactly what many people have been asking for for weeks now. Play a Pittsburgh style 'zone blitzing' defense, not a New England style 'whatever you call this crap' defense.
Well for one you never said that. And 2 when we play nickel we run a 4 man front a lot of the time. We put mosley and coleman in the middle with ellis and pace/ thomas on the outside. Problem is that harris has been out/ is still injured so we dont have the personel to waste a lb on the line. Congrats the cowboys got 6 sack, its easy to sack a qb when your up by double digits... pace did have 2 sacks didnt he.... As far as the simple mind stint goes, Im not the idiot trying to switch back to the 4-3 after we spent 3 years switching to the 3-4. You think our lbs cant cover the pass now? well who is going to play lb for us we have thomas pace bowens gholston who are all des. that leaves us with barton and harris and hopefully pace can make the switch. Great depth at lb for sure. Let alone the fact just because a guy is playing with a hand on the ground doesnt mean that hell have more success rushing the qb. If anything hell have less success because he has less momentum running toward or around the tackle.
Why not? Because of one extra guy with his hand down? And Kris Jenkins is an MVP type player when he's going....why shouldn't the D be a little dependent on him? Theres just...so much wrong with the logic going in this and many other cry threads this week. Even moreso than usual...
