McNair is done. His completion % is hovering about 50% this season. Grossman needs more of a resume. I'd take Rivers based on potential. However, the reason Chad is good for this team is that he rarely makes mistakes with the ball. Sure he had a bad game against JAX and he lost a couple of fumbles on blind-side hits, but I really don't ever feel that he is going to throw us out of the game. This is important because the defense is awful and until yesterday really isn't doesn't force a lot of TOs because they are run on so frequently. So, it is even more critical to have an offense that doesn't give the ball away.
Did you watch the Giant game yesterday? Manning is starting to become a real solid QB. I'm not a big fan of Hasselbeck, I think he is highly over rated. Chad is what he is, highly limited he isn't going to break down a good D but he is smart and knows how to beat teams he should beat. Yesterday was a clasic example of the Miami D simply getting over confident and believing Chad had nothing because he showed them noting for so long. They simply stopped defending the field 10 yards past the line of scrimage and he was able to float a couple of balls to Coles who hauled them in against single coverage. Even the passes to Coles should have been delivered quicker with more on them but he got them there and that's what counts.
Oddly enough Miller was the only one making tackles yesterday. Apparently the CS can only manage to teach one person at a time. I've never seen such terrible tackling.
Favre, Eli Manning and Trent Green don't make your lists? And what about Leftwich? Pennington is good, not Top 7-8 in the league? HUH?
Favre is a turnover machine and not even worth discussing at this point. I hate the Giants and Eli's down syndrome face even more, the guy is woefully inconsistent and turns the ball over too much. Trent Green is clearly on the downside of his career. Leftwich is one of the worst QBs in the NFL.
People criticizing Chad are crazy. You want last year and Brooks Bollinger back? No thanks. For all his late heroics yesterday, Harrington's 2 INTs were the reason Miami was behind to begin with. We rarely have that problem, with Chad as QB we're almost always in position to win because he knows what he's doing out there. He doesn't dazzle you with Michael Vick-like passes and runs, but he knows how to run a game and if it's there to be won late he usually wins it. As junc said--when he's been in there we've won more than we've lost, when he's been out we've lost A LOT more than we've won. Over a four year period of time, that's not a coincidence.
Eli is playing much better this year. The guy has improved each year and right now he is playing better than Pennington.
I didn't see the 2nd half because I left for the Jets game but what I saw in the first half was typical Eli. He's surrounded with a ton of talent on both sides of the ball and still manages to screw up a majority of the time. Barber ran for almost 200 yards and Jacobs added another 50. Luckily for Eli and the Giants the other guy was even worse getting sacked about 20 times and fumbling like he was Kurt Warner.
Favre is on a terrible team. Your dislike of the way Eli looks means nothing. Do you realize that Manning has a better TD - INT ratio then Chad and a better QB rating? Why is Trent Green on the Downside?because he got leveled week one?
Actually that's only true for 2005. Herm Edwards made a living off of winning the winnable games and being unable to compete against the power houses. Everybody who is bitching at this point needs to remember that this is like a 5-11 team on paper. If we actually get 8 or 9 wins out of them it'll be a huge achievement and will speak a lot about Mangini's ability to win games.
The Packers are a terrible team because of the play of Favre. Eli has 7 ints in 5 games, Pennington has 5 in 6. Eli has 11 TDs because the Giants seem to prefer to throw the ball down near the goal line. They only have 2 rushing TDs and neither is by their best back. The Jets have 5 short rushing TDs. QB rating is a horrible statistic. Green is 36 years old and Herm is his coach. We'll see what he does when he comes back.
I think it was more of a short-yardage game plan than Chad checking down. Also, I was screaming about that lateral WR pass at the line of scrimmage as well. Enough already. And enough with the tricky crap too. I know we don't exactly have the personnel to just lineup and beat up on teams, but we fake SOMETHING on nearly every play! By the way, I haven't seen the bonehead play if the day mentioned - Tim Dwight's pitch back on his muffed KO return! What the hell was he thinking!?! You're having trouble handling it, fall on the damn ball! The staff better rip him a new one for that play.
I definitely agree about the trick plays. I didn't see the ATL game but so far this year outside of the comeback at philly he's played poorly and still hasn't progressed to where he should be.
Manning in 5 games has more yards, more TD, a better completion % and a higher QB ranking than Pennington in 6 games.
He also has 8 more attempts than Chad even though Chad has played 1 more game and he got alot of his "better #s" from garbage time in Seattle and let's not forget he has Tiki Barber to take pressure off the passing game while Chad has no running game AND Chad played better against the only common opponent we have(Indy) and Chad has a 90 rating compared to just 74 for Eli. Chad's #s have been amazing when you consider he has no running game.
