Its pretty amazing how the NFL can change with in days. Edwards ruined his shit with his latest brawl. Thought he was just getting better. DUI is not a great deal as far as character is concerned, but the latest fight is.
Yeah really. I thought the decision to go after Holmes first was a no brainer. But it comes down to the fact that Braylon didn't bring up money, and Holmes did. I don't know why people don't expect these guys to want to get paid.
Edwards used to be winning by a lot more. Guess all the people who didn't vote jumped on the Santonio bandwagon after he got signed instead of Edwards. Case in point:
No - its because at the time of this poll Braylon was making all the right noises, the fight hadn't happened, and people seem to want to rush to forget that he was a good player for the jets, whereas Holmes was making it clear he was going to follow the money so most people thought he would be gone anyway, and it was viewed as a choice between Braylon and being able to afford Cromartie or just getting Holmes.
The right noises were not bringing up money and wanting to return. The fight is immaterial because it happened after the Jets signed Holmes. At the time of this poll, people wanted Braylon because he did the right thing - not talk about money. And mention something about returning for a "hometown discount." What they didn't know is that the Jets were not going to let Holmes walk. He was their #1 priority all along. You can't use hindsight to justify your position.
Who is using hindsight to justify their position? The only people doing that are those now saying that there never could have ever been a choice other than Holmes.
The Jets FO seems to have the same sentiment since Braylon didn't want to return for the price they were offering him. I personally thought getting Holmes over everything else was what was going to take place. I was never a big Braylon fan.
I'm new to the forum, is this a joke? the decision was made already. Maybe youre just speaking in terms of what you would've done.
I could have sworn you were in the same camp as me, believing signing the two receivers should be the most important goal for the offseason, and much more important than returning Cro. If I had to choose one, I did indeed want Edwards. Looking at the needs of the team as a whole, he's not as explosive as Holmes, but he contributes more to the running game, and I felt he'd come more cheaply, enabling us to sign other needed players and possibly front some cash to help with the cap in the future. Obviously, I was quite wrong on that one. Tanny signed the more explosive receiver AND returned several other FAs. I had pegged the plan and needs wrong. At the time, I assumed he'd try to get younger at OLB and spend to solve issues that we're pushing off to next season. Brilliant as always. That's why he's the GM and the rest of us just sit here talking about it.
I still think despite Braylon's off-field antics, he was a better fit for this team ... Were going to have to see what Holmes is truly capable of as a teams true #1 WR He had Hines Ward in Pittsburgh and had Braylon on the other side getting attention last season with the Jets Holmes will see a lot of double coverages I think this season
I can't believe how many people went Braylon. I'm happy as shite they went Holmes, then Cromartie in terms of priority. If they could have got Braylon for a mil, i'd be on board. but i knew there was no chance of that, and he was replaceable.
"If we paid Braylon less than we pay our #3 receiver" ..... HAH. You would rather have Plax for 3 mil than Braylon for 3 mil? You must be high.
1. I was referring to Cotch, who was going to make 1.8 mil. 2. You said you'd only want him here for 1 mil. 3. ...............fucking obvious
After this offseason, I wanted both back over Cro. But since the trade, I was never in his camp 100%. He's a good, not great WR. I wanted him back for Sanchez's progression, but he wanted Holmes money and that's laughable.
This. I think the Braylon situation boils down to personality. In my opinion, Braylon and Kerry Rhodes are very similar in Rex Ryan's eyes: same talent level, same priorities. I thought Braylon was going to be the first person signed, though.
Braylon just didn't wanna be #2...no matter how much we offered.I'm sure if Tanny offered what SF offered,he still wouldnt have come.Him and JCo (while I like Cotchery) suffered an identity crisis here. The thought they were better than they were.Braylon is only a #1 if you have really good #2 and #3 receivers.Cotchery is a #3 especially since he has back problems (never trust players in any sport with back issues).I'm surprised Holmes isn't a landslide.Braylon is good for homerun plays but those are few and far between.Holmes run every route well including the short ones.Holmes is younger, faster, has won a ring already + a SB MVP.While he got in trouble b4,Braylon is the one who can't seem to stay out of it.I woulda loved to bring both back but clearly Braylon's money requests for us was different than for any other team.I'm sure if Tanny could sign him for 3.5 mill with only 1 mill guaranteed,he'd do it in a heartbeat.I'm not even that high on Tanny but I think he's smart enough to get that done.
