Holmes is a way better player no question. Dont understand the hate for him around here the guy makes plays that win games. It's not even close for me

I dont think it a matter of hate, most fans would love to have Tone, yet when you look at cost vs return over the long run Edwards makes better sence. Not saying that Edwards is the better receciver either, he is not, but I just feel the money could be better used this year and next in other areas..

    I agree with this.
As impressive as Holmes can be I just like what Braylon brings to the table with his run blocking and physical size he imposes on CB's in the redzone.

No he's not as good underneath as Holmes but IF we could get someone like Steve Smith(Car) to fill the void of Holmes, matched with the ever-improving QB skills of Sanchez (who I as one think he will make that leap to the next level this year) I don't think we would miss Holmes too much at all.

    Quick Facts:
Holmes - has never got that "big" contract with all that money.
Edwards - he has, he got a huge deal from the Browns
Holmes - Has a Super Bowl ring and a shiny MVP trophy (he's won)
Edwards - Was with the Browns, the last 2 years he's tasted the sweet taste of winning and on the cusp of a ring himself.

    Braylon = winning > $ (he wants to win $ isn't as important he's already got $)

Santonio = $ > winning (this guy has won a SB ring and SB MVP but still has yet to get "paid")

I prefer Holmes as I think he is the more potent weapon with a wider range of abilities than Edwards and his shorter over the middle/slants etc will give Sanchez more opportunities and keep the chains moving.

We will miss Edwards blocking in the run game but that can be addressed. My one knock on Edwards blocking is from my POV he blocked guys into our line and backs on plenty of occasions.

My particular vote is to keep Holmes and Edwards, let Cro go and put it on Wilson to live up to his ability on the outside. This strategy is a risk given the very limited time before the season starts if it does and should work out equal money wise

Steve Smith (Panthers) plays with a chip on his shoulder the size of Rex Ryan. If I had Jake Delhomme throwing to me the last few years, I'd be walking around angry too.

He's an elite wideout with speed, great hands and has no fear of going over the middle. I'd love to see him play for the Jets.

Steve Smith is a gritty hard nosed player that Rex would love but yeah, the injuries have been there the last few years.

Holmes is the better player, Braylon is the better fit

You don't always need the best player, sometimes it's all about resigning those who fit the offensive philosophy the best

    Braylon needs to stay

Holmes IS better, but I like Edwards - for a cheaper price, you get a guy who can help in the red zone, who can block with the best of them and WANTS TO BE A JET. You can't underestimate what kind of motivation that can provide a man.

And I also think Steve Smith would be an intriguing player on the Jets

Steve Smith has said he wants to play in the slot, he would be excellent there absolutely with J-Co and Braylon outside

I will be happy as long it is the REDSKINS that give him that obscene amount of money. IMO DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS and nothing aids a Defense like a great run game. Edwards is a great assit to our run blocking! Let Holmes walk with his 50 mil. I'd rather win a Super Bowl with guys who want to be Jets!

Holmes is the better receiver, but Edwards will be much easier to sign. I think Holmes will go for the money while Edwards wants to be here. If Holmes doesn't sign during the likely three day exclusive signing period, I would say good-bye and sign Edwards before the three days expire. I would not let both go to the open market.

With the rumored cap floor, teams that are way under the cap will be forced to spend their money. I think Holmes is gone, as someone like the Redskins will overpay for him. I like Edwards more anyways. Although his routes aren't as fluid, and he doesn't get as much separation, Edwards gives Sanchez a lot more room for error due to his size. Since Sanchez is still developing, it's good to have a WR like Edwards.

    In an ideal world...

1st - We let Cro walk if he's more interested in $ than Super Bowls and won't take a reasonable amount.

2nd - Depending on which way Cro decided to go we either move ahead with a little extra cap space since he was interested in winning and less in $, or we pick up Carlos Rodgers while Cro waits to get paid.

3rd - We give the same proposal to Holmes and see which way he goes, if he walks we go pick up Steve Smith (Car).

4th - Now our cap space is in a better position to get say, Matt Roth and resign Braylon.

Just as a foot note here.
Steve Smith is a dynamic reciever who I have all the confidence in the world in, in my opinion the only advantage Holmes has on him is youth. I live in NC I've followed this guy his whole career and been to many games, this is the guy that comes out and signs posters, hats and balls for 30min after every game (win or a loss) while Peppers walks to his car ignoring everyone. Like vilmatic said, give me someone who wants to be Jet or wants to be a part of that organization over a $ grabber any day.

He's got 8884 yards, 14.3 Avg, 52 TD in 10 seasons with Jame Delhomme throwing to him for 8 of them and missing 2 seasons due to injuries.

Steve Smith is 32 and will command big money. The youth advantage that Holmes has on him is huge. Plus, he is a band-aid-boy - always injured. Why spend money, and likely overspend, on a player on the down side of his career? The Jets will be in the market for another receiver in a year a two plus owe Smith big money. You don't win championships by overpaying for past performance, which is what any team will be doing by signing Smith. You win by getting players who outperform their contracts. I'd rather sign a younger player with potential than a declining star. I pass on Smith without hesitation.

smith is under contract and can only be had by trade.so it's not like we have to offer himsome huge deal.if carolina's willing to take a fourth and we strike out on holmes/edwards and the rest of the top tier wr f.a.'s then it's not a bad stopgap move to make

TO had three 1000+ yard years between the age of 32-34 and between 35-36 while playing for BUFFALO he even had a 829 yard season, and last year put up 983 yards.

Bernard Hopkins holds the belt at 46 yeras old.

Some people age different, to say he is declining is pure speculations. History only shows the guy can play ball thats it.
