But since we are a GROUND & POUND team and Holmes sucks in run blocking while Braylon excels, Id rather keep the player that caters to our strength. Besides Holmes drops too many passes and is one arrest away from a years suspension..
I'm really glad to see Edwards caught up in this poll. Holmes had double the amount at one point, pathetic.
The passing game is the least important area of the team? I don't care about a team's individual offensive mentality. This is the NFL- the passing attack is the most important area of the team, period. Sorry, there's just no reason to be this confident. Take away weapons from Brady and Manning, and they'll have worse seasons. Take them away from a still-developing quarterback, and you could de-rail a career and a franchise. Equipping Mark Sanchez for success is the number one priority for this team. ...huh? :breakdance::breakdance::breakdance:
You brought up 3 great points, 3 points that have convinced me that Edwards is clearly the better option. Homes is so close to being suspended, and imagine if he did get suspended? it would be WW3 between the Jets coaches, players, fan, media....it would be a terrible situation.
Rex took a defense with 1 Elite Defensive back, and a bunch of average, and slightly above average defensive players. I think he can do something with what he has. Locking up offensive Weapons for Sanchez would be in the best interest of the team.
The ideal of course is to keep both, not going to happen though. I have little doubt that Tome is going to go for the big pay day, above all else. No doubt with our cap situation, huge sacrifices would have to be made in other areas to sign him and it's not worth weakening or continuing strengthen those areas to sign one player. I find it hard to imagine that with all the options at WR we will have, that we could not somehow replace Tones catches with other players. As others had said," Edwards is a much better fit in this offense". I also believe he is in for a breakout year as well. This is the year that many of the parts of the offense will fall in to place, providing we can stay healthy. So as I see it, Edwards to stretch the field, Cotch and Keller to work the middle, and the possibility of one of the young kids stepping up this year. To this attack, add the RB's catching the ball coming out of the back field, which Edwards will be a important part of with his blocking skills, and I don't see our passing game suffering to greatly without Tone. Adding to all of that, will be that moneys saved on that one contract alone will allow us to lock up other players this year and give us breathing room next....
Despite Holmes being the better receiver I like Braylon better. He seems to really appreciate the Jets and how they turned his career around. I would hate to see him go. But it's not about who you like better, it's about on the field production.
Keep Braylon. We made it to the AFC Championship game without Holmes and it was only Sanchez's first year. We can do fine without Holmes.
edwards.i believe he can be signed during the 72hr window before f.a. opens up abd becomes a bidding war.this will allow us to fill some other spots in the roster without wasting to much time in holmes. side note:does anyone else think the new guy carlito may be "reppin newburgh"?
I would love to say Braylon because of his run blocking and size but let's be real here: Holmes is the more talented receiver and can do a ton more damage underneath while still getting open deep. We can probably replace Edwards with Burress and see similar production. Also we still have Keller.
Like others have mentioned, I feel that Holmes is the more dynamic player, and would be my choice If I was the GM of many other teams, but in the JETS case I think Edwards is the better fit. A big target, who's running blocking efforts are an asset to the JETS style of play. Not to mention that I think he'll come at a significantly lower price tag which needs to be considered. Holmes has the ring, and the SB MVP, now's his chance to chase a big signing bonus. Hopefully he stays, we'll see. If they do lose Holmes, it would be interesting to see what it would take to get Steve Smith, who wants out of losing in Carolina. I have no idea if it would be financially feasible (his contract status / demands), but intriguing to me if the trade price was modest (which I think it will be)
No I am not "reppin newburgh" w/e that means....but I hear you guys on Braylon being dependable, great run blocker, etc, however I just think that Santonio is the more explosive reciever out of the two. I hope and pray we keep them both but more and more i'm starting to think that we won't be able to keep them both plus Cro. Braylon does NY in his heart now and is willing to give us the hometown discount but idk I just think Santonio is more explosive that's all....
It'll be real interesting to watch how you Edwards voters re-act when Holmes gets $50 mil over 5 years.
I'm not so sure Edwards would sign in that 72 hrs window... he wants money he's not worth... and he'll need a FA reality check before accepting what the Jets offer.
