Airing it out more than last year when we were bacially 50/50 is one thing but throwing 146 times compared to running it 81 s not what they planned on doing. I would say they planedd an maybe 55-45 pass-run. I think our pass O is going to be really good when the OL gets setlled and Mark gets more comfortable w/ his new weapons.
Probably not, but they have definitely lost focus on the running game. That's what brought us to the dance the last two seasons and we are going to need it brought back into focus for the rest of the season. I would like to start seeing some more McKnight brought in as a change of pace.
I don't think Ryan talking or not is in the top ten of issues facing the Jets right now. Not even top twenty.
That's a good question. One thing is maybe a few more traps. It worked last night and is a favorite of mine. Even when it doesn't work it can cause a moment of hesitation for defenses when we run other plays. I also love sweeps. It's a play that can get us to the edge and if executed can pick up good chunks of yards. Also it gets those big interior DL'men moving horizontally instead of vertically (again if executed properly) and can wear them down. And thirdly run in pass situations / pass formations. If we have 3 Wides and it's 2nd and 7 we should run occassionally. Right now the predictability is causing issues for our run O.
Junc...you still have Herm Edwards on your resume. Your involvement in coaching discussions doesnt hold much water.
Our best pass rusher since rex has been here was kris jenkins enough said. Flacco had all day all fucking day to throw lob passes for completions after 5 to 7 seconds and a multiple missed sacks on our behalf. OL or not Sanchez again with a dumb int when were gaining momentum while playing from behind And. The OL doesn't need any analysis. Its not there
This pretty much sums it up. On the list of the Jets problems, Ryan's mouth comes in somewhere behind the pathetic O-line, inaccurate and mistake prone QB, ineffective running game, ineffective playcalling, comically slow defense, Inez Sainz' sexual harassment case, and just about anything else you can think of.
the bigger Rex talks, the more focused the team is. The only time it backfired was the 45-3 game after Leonhard went down I'll take that when Rex boasts his team plays over that one exception.
Talked a big game in January through the wild card and divisional games - they won. Shut his face against the Steelers.....yep. They feed off of it. They've all said they love when he makes statements that stir up attention because they want to go out and prove him right.
You are making an implication that without Rex mouthing off, the team doesn't try as hard. I see that as an indictment of the players.
Agreed, and we saw in hard knocks Rex voice his concern about his team being self motivated without him going apeshit every week. Westhoff agreed in that scene. I don't see the same toughness from the entire team this season. Its strange. I do think the Mangold injury has affected both sides of the ball, big time. But they need something to get going. I turn to the HC who hasn't let us down. I know he's kicking their ass in the meetings, but let's kick some ass to the media and fans. It might help against a division opponent that they seem to not be afraid of anymore and have a winning record against.
I don't have HBO and thus never saw Hard Knocks but for about 40 minutes of one episode last summer. Then I watched half of another episode earlier this year when shown on NFLN. I never saw the part that you noted above. There is something to it. The team acted almost as if they won the Super Bowl after the divisional win in NE and then came out and played listless football in the first half of the Championship Game.
okay fair enough. It was the "goddamn snack" scene. Where he talked about leading the team, and the group they had last season. How people had to step up and be leaders, how they had to want it for themselves and because Rex told them to want it. I still think it rings true as well. They won't motivate themselves to a degree. Granted, its difficult to do when your best OLmen is out and he's a big leader on that offense, and the rest of the offense is increasing its impatience with the OC. But they're still professionals. They need to not implode when the season is young and the team can rebound in the 2nd half.
personally, I miss Mangini as a team, personnel manager. I hate all the smart mouth chat, especially from the adults. Just coach/manage and prepare the team, the only person he needs to give straight answers to, is the owner.
I think you're confusing correlation with causation. In my opinion, we lost to the Steelers because we were banged up, lacked the defensive depth to stop their offense, and got shell shocked by falling behind in front of a raucous crowd. I don't think Ryan talking a big game to the media would've changed any of those things.
