There's no way Curtis Martin is a first ballot hall of famer if Herm doesn't coach him for 4 years from 2001-2004. Any other coach gives Lamont Jordan 30% of the carries (at least) during those seasons and rests Curtis so that he won't grind down. Look at what Curtis actually did from 27 to 30 under Herm (his best 4 years ever). Look at what he did in 2004 when any other coach would have been resting him to preserve him.

Herm was not a particularly good coach in many ways, but there's no denying that he made Curtis Martin into an even more valuable player than he otherwise would have been.

And Curtis was going down shortly after 30 no matter what. He had a huge number of carries through his first 6 seasons in the NFL before Herm ever got his hands on him.

Herm blows. One of my professors made fun of him last week... good stuff.

    Herm sucks, plan and simple.
He's a good coach monday through saturday. Gameday, he's lost.

He's the Johnny Cochran of the Nfl. Good for a sound bite.

That's a bit unfair. For all that Parcells did for the Jets (which was a wwhole heckuva a lot), he also saddled them with some horrendous long-term contracts right before he left. BP took care of his own at the expense of the nxt guy. And if Edwards was able to get the Jets into the playoffs for a few years in a row, he deserves a bit of credit... Especially since BP quit because he didn't think the Jets could go any further.

And if Herm was such a "terrible HC," then what about our other HCs who rarely manage to get the Jets into the playoffs more than one season, present company included? If the Jets do not make it to the playoffs this year, is mangini even worse than Herm Edwards?

Whoever takes over KC will inherit some nice young talent. Their last draft was very solid. It's just too bad they didn't take a QB to develop. That's the team's greatest weakeness right now.

Thanks. A few weeks ago it seemed like everyone thought Mangini was still The Genius.

    I wonder what Woody thinks?

Both times he inherited franchises that MISSED the postseason 2 straight yeras and each time he guided his team to the postseason. In KC they have seen lods of talent walk out the door in the past 3 years and while they have some good, young players they still haven't fixed the OL and still don't have a QB. it's hard to win w/o those 2 pieces.

The team he inherited here cahnged so much from the '01 playoff team to the '04 playoff team. it is a complete myth he didn't play young players. it's funny, if he was here everyone would be complaining he's not playing Gholston enough but guys do have to earn their way on the field and the ones that did played right away.

He is NOT the GM, how does he buils a SB team? How di HE let Jared Allen go? That's on Carl Peterson who is an awful GM. Allen said how much he loved Herm, how was it Herm's fault? Was it Herm's fault we let Coles go? Was it Herm's fualt we traded Moss for Coles? he was never a GM, he never had full power.

and he did it all while giving him less carries per season than Parcells groh.

    1995-96, 98-00 under Parcells/Groh:

79 games, 1736 carries, 6594 yds, 3.8 YPC, averaged 347 carries per season

    2001-2005 under Herm:

76 games, 1514 carries, 6347 yds, 4.2 YPC, averaged 303 carries per season

He averaged 44 LESS carries a season under Herm yet Herm drove him into the ground. I love the perceptions that become fact as they are spread on the boards.

32 LESS carries per season and I know people will say

You are correct. he left us in cap hell where we had to change half our team in 2002 after our '01 playoff appearance. Thankfully we had the deal w/ Houston in the expansion draft our we nevver would have had a chance in 2002 but in that deal we lost an excellent corner in his prime, another starting corner/safety and our starting RT and we came back to win the division.

Oh and not only did BP quit b/c he didn't think this tam could win but Belichick and groh as well. Parcells was desperate for one final run and he quit, then BB was desperate to win b/c if he failed again he'd never get another shot and he walked out on us then Groh finally got a shot after 20+ years as an assistant and he walked out on us. People forget that.

Herm & Mangini are different style coaches but if mangini doesn't make it this year then obviously he's worse than Herm. We have a team that probably has our geratest collection of talent since '98 and under herm we never had a season like last year where we were mostly healthy and still stunk.

W/ all that said Mangini has potential to be a much better coach but he has been going backwards ever since the end of '06. He needs to get back to an upward trend and we cannot afford another coaching change anyway so we are stuck w/ him for the near future so he better get it going again.

The way Anderson is playing, I don't think Quinn will be available any time soon.

you hit the nail right on the head, on all points. only thing you left out is clock management skills, which are non exsistent.
Herm disguises his ineptitude, with catch phrases. He is not head coaching material. He's, at best, a secondary coach.
