Herm is such a douche, seriously, he is so full of shit that he actually believes himself, Junc, the FACTS are there he said them himself so you cannot really argue this one
What I think is the best part, and something no one seems to have picked up on yet is what Herm did by saying this. He threw his own MENTOR under the bus! No one, not a single human being, is safe from Herm. I wonder if his mother wakes up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, knowing it's just a matter of time before she gets the "treatment." -------------- BTW: Abyzmul, why does he have to be a Dem? Let him be one of those other fringe parties. The Dems don't want Herm.
he said "when I got here", he wasn't talking about the season or the team he coached he was talking about day 1 when he arrived in KC. SL had an excellent Defense in 1999, they also had an excellent D in 2001 and coincidentally they made the SB both years nd last year's champ was more about D in the playoffs than about O. the D stunk in the reg season but not in Jan/Feb.
He got them to the playoffs. Takes pride in that. But Edwards also knows that wasn?t his team. He was leasing. In many ways, that was the last team of the confusing Dick Vermeil era. hmy:
That was the WRITER'S WORDS!. Herm's quote was: “Honestly, when I got here, it wasn’t a football team,” it's not that difficult to understand, you guys just need to bash the guy for some reason.
It?s Herm Edwards?s team now, baby. ?People are like, ?Herm, you blew up the team,? ? Edwards says. ?No, no, no, I didn?t blow up anything. This team got old. That?s what happens in the NFL. Teams get old fast. The good teams are the ones who react before that happens. You have to run fast to win in this league. You need speed. You can?t let yourself get old. You saw that last year. ? People may not want to believe it, but they saw it with their own eyes. That playoff game? Man, that?s what an old team looks like. ?We?re going to bring 42 rookies and first-year guys to camp this year. Forty-two. That?s a lot. But that?s what we?ve got to do. We?ve got to get young. We?ve got to bring a new energy to this thing. We?re not in this to win games. We?re in this to win championships. I guess the writer made Herm say that...hmy:
"Honestly when I got here, it wasn't a football team." So WTF was it then Herm? I'm sure Dick is feeling great about personally handing the reigns over to his idiot protege.
You know that is the one thing that really struck me reading that was that Vermeil is probably sick hearing something like that. KC wasn't a horrible team when he left it. Average at best, with a defense that was holding it back. But I wouldn't call it something other than a football team. It is pretty insulting, especially considering that he is from the Vermeil camps.
Not just from the Vermeil camps, but Herm publicly acknowledges Dick as his mentor! Can you imagine, the guy who taught you everything you knew, then hand picked you as his successor, then you turn around and basically call him incompetant and tell the world that he did a shit job before you came in to clean it up? Herm is a douchebag.
Herm and Vermeil aside, the reality of the Chiefs is that they have not had an offense running on full cylinders since Priest Holmes had his career year. It was that year that Vermeil's Cheifs got the reputation of being all offense and no defense and they got their asses handed to them in the playoffs because of it. But that was like 2002. Since then, the Chiefs have ridden that personality even though their offense has been lackluster. Maybe one of you eggheads will come in now with a bunch of stats about how the Chiefs have been top 10 in offense the last 5 years or something. I'm too lazy to look that stuff up. But I watch football. And the Chiefs have not been scary on offense for years now. And, yes, I do remember them destroying the Jets week 1 of the season Herm quit on the team but they did not keep that up for long.
