At one point in my life not so long ago that its obscured in a booze addled haze, I actually spent precious moments of my time on this green earth trying to convince myself that Herm was actually equal to the challenge of Belicheck and the deathstar.
I saw this previously, and now I'm watching it again. Im pissed. I liked Herm. This is just rediculous. Tomorrow he's doing the Giants. Lmao. I can't believe this nonsense. I guess espn is tired of repeating the same shit over and over so this is their way of trying to do something new. In my opinion. It's a MAJoR FAIL. I am Interested to see what he says about the Jets when it's their turn. Anything to pay the bills I guess.
We had some pretty fun seasons under Herm. Beating the Colts at home was awesome, beating the chargers on the road and of course we will never forget Doug Brien in Pittsburgh. "Men, ya play with ya heart" "When you play like that you're a tough team to beat."
Oh, thanks. Does he get to keep all the hats? That's quite a perk. Me neither, except for his last season he did a decent job. Having Pennington on the field to run the game and manage the clock covered up a lot of his flaws, when you had Vinny or Quincy in there it kind of exposed Herm in that regard.
Herm was a clown. He was over his head from the get go. Him and Fat Ted ran the D, and despite Herm's being a former db they had the worst defensive backfield in recent memory. Remember Damian Robinson? I try to forget. Herm avoided using younger players if he had a vet who could run on to the field. His failure to use Cotch, for example, was criminal. It was always unclear what role Herm had in personnel decisions, so I don't claim to know how much of this was on him, but his tenure coincided with a steady decline in the OL. The offensive plans sucked, the playcalling sucked, the clock management sucked. 05 was a particular fiasco - but I don't have the stomach to talk about it today. Suffice to say that Herm had a hand in it. Then there was the way he left town - no class or honor whatsoever. The only good thing was he left. Good riddance. Herm was my least favorite coach since Kotite, and going back before that I don't know how far you'd have to go. I guess Walton was pretty frustrating.
Yeah, not sure how much of that was directly on him. We didn't draft well at all the years he was here, so a lot of times he had no choice but to stick with veterans. Not sure how much he could do about the two top QBs going down in Week 3. Let's face it, Brooks Bollinger and a 40-something Vinny were only going to get us so far. A lot of that was due to the O-line you just mentioned, too.
Not to beat a dead horse, but here's the thing - if you have an HC who all concerned believe and accept should not have much, if any, say in personnel, that says something about the HC, doesn't it? Not something good, either. Off hand I can't think of any good to great HC who I know has NO involvement in personnel. None? So either Herm was not holding up that end of an HC's potential role within the organization, or he was and sucked at it. Because yes, the overall trend of personnel decisions during his tenure was downward.
When they hired him he had never even been a coordinator, so I think they didn't want to put too much on him running the whole franchise. I'm sure he had some input, we'd have had to be in the room to know who made what calls on what players. If Bradway were better at his job he'd still be in it.
At least it doesn't have any bearing on actual football games. His acting job with the Jets was just as terrible.
poor herm, that lame fake coach speech sucked alot. herm was a good player and lousy coach. I was very happy when we traded herm to KC for a 4th rounder (leon Washington) and i'd prefer he stop pretending to be the Jets HC.
Funny how ESPN never has him breaking down film or talking about numbers. Just doing ridiculous acts like this, Herminator, etc.
