That's just misspelling on my part--not a slight on him. As I said, I am optimistic that he will improve and make a bigger impact. Yes, Coples had solid numbers in college, but there was a lot of talk about his motor, and taking plays off which concerned me. I also agree he should've played more often earlier, especially with the guys that were put out there ahead of him.

If the Jets can find a way to get Coples inside in the front 7 he's going to be a real impact player for them. On the edge he's meh. He's not bad out there but he's also no kind of game-changer.

His really strong year at NC was at DT his junior year. Put him over a G and he can dominate.

He's a tweener outside. Not enough explosion to be a good 4-3 DE against NFL T's and not big enough to be a really good 3-4 DE.

I think with NE picking right after us our decision to take the Ghost was almost a 'fear pick' in the sense that we didn't want NE drafting him and turning him into a monster we had to face 2-3 times a year.

edit: funny how as soon as we picked the Ghost NE dropped down in the draft so maybe that's exactly what would have happened.

Whoever this unknown player is, clearly we need to sign this beast. I mean, look at that description. The guy has NO weaknesses. Dude will probably set sack records.

4-3 DEs are not equal to 3-4DEs. 4-3 DEs have a much greater responsibility to get to the QB because they have more guys up front and less linebackers and are expected to get more sacks, while 3-4 DEs job is to create pressure for the linebackers to exploit, so the numbers do not always go to them. Obviously stopping the run is important too, but I was strictly referring to creating pressure on the QB.

    Lazy my ass.

Good stuff. Thanks for posting. I was able to find Chandler Jones count: 729 (not including special teams)

    http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2013/01/patriots_by_the.html

So in 224 more snaps than Coples, playing as a 4-3 DE Chandler Jones was able to get a grand total of .5 more sacks. Man the Jets are STUPID for not drafting that beast!!
