I'm sure he's slowed down some but I think he's still pretty quick. Coles was 12th in the league in receiving yards (Cotch 22nd), finishing ahead of at least 4 guys I would consider a true #1, and another I won't count because he was injured. Yeah he's getting older and we probably need to think about a true #1 for the future but I think we're good for right now. Who do you think we should go after and when?
IF they trade up for Johnson that is fine as long as they know Clemens will get the ball down the field to him. On the Jets with Pennington as Qb we would be as big a waste as Santana Moss was. If they want to go Wr then get Jarrett to be a slot receiver. He might slip to the second round. A burner with Chad is a wasted pick in the first round.
That and the one where he was knocked backwards, got up because his knee didn't hit and ran down the field for a TD and no one caught him that time too. Plus a 12 ypc is a product of our system
Well, running for a long TD, when the entire defensive backfield is lying on the ground like they just tried to tackle Ben Grimm is hardly indicative of footspeed, as well. Yes, but the system is also a product of the players in it. We do not have a siongle player except Leon Washington, that makes a defense say, 'If we miss this tackle, he's going the distance.' Thats why you have safeties playing too close to the LoS. You put a guy with that kind of speed, on the outside, and the rest of the offense, including Baker will open up like a Rose in the Springtime.
again with the Chad hate. I guess they Subbed in Clemens to throw to Moss back at Marshall too? the Deep Ball is about timing, and separation, not a Cannon. Pennington has exceptional timing, we have Zero separation. Moss had it, but his diminuitive stature, gives that away when the trailing defender is taller.
You need a Qb who can get the ball down the filed to a guy who scares the offense. Do you think the 8 in the box will stop. Pennington can't get it to a fast receiver so it makes no difference who we have out there. I want them to trade up for Johnson but it will be a wasted pick. If the Qb can't get the ball down the field he is not going the distance either.
Exactly. It's like saying Andre Johnson is a 11 YPC WR. No he's not, the Texans just suck and relied on a short pass system this year. Our WRs are baller. *Edit* I have no idea what the actual topic between you guys was, but I'm hoping it was someone saying we have no playmakers. Thats bullshyte to the max.
Chads timing is when he throws passes under 25 yards. He has no timing when it comes to the long ball. His balls hang in the air forever if he throws up the middle of the field and the Cb's and safety's can close on them or he sails them out of bounds on deep sideline routes. As far as Moss's height he does not have a problem in Washington getting seperation and I believe Steve Smith Proves that height theory wrong. He has a Qb who can get the ball downfield to him. And his qb s**ck to top it off.
I'd love to see Meachem available, I wouldn't mind seeing a swap of 25, and Vilma to Tampon Bay for Calvin Johnson either Though getting Blalock at 25, and Mike Walker in the Second would be great....
Imagination can be wonderful thing, but Moss had a better year in terms of YPC, Long etc, his last year with Pennington, than he did last year... P.S. (Washington also has a running game....that helps..)
no, safties are playing close to the LOS because of 2 things. (1) they are not threatened by Chads arm. Look, I love Chad but defenses are not threatened by his arm so then they can line up closer to the LOS (2) to defend our intermediate passes which is our system. It is our system because of #1 not because of our WR's "lack of" speed. And the only people who are saying 'If we miss this tackle, he's going to the distance.' are fans, because I can assure you defenses are well aware of Coles and Cotchery's ability to break one.
How can you watch Chad under throw or throw passes out of bounds year after year and say I have an imagination. Why would a defense stop putting 8 in the box if the Qb can not throw the ball downfield. Randy Moss or T/O in their prime would not stop that problem for the Jets. A good running game will not solve that problem on obvious passing downs. If you can not stretch the field then all the good teams and coaches will send the farm at Chad and succeed in stopping him more often than not. As they have done in games that have mattered over the last five years.
Michael Turner Thought the Turner lovers and haters would find this interesting. We may get a real close look of what this guy can do in a feature role: Chargers restricted free agent Michael Turner was a hot name over at the NFL meetings in Phoenix this week. Teams looking for a starting running back are assessing whether to make a run at trading for Turner or filling their needs in the late-April NFL draft. "There was a lot of activity," Chargers general manager A.J. Smith said. "Very interesting. We'll see what all the talk means. "There's legitimate interest on a few teams' part. A couple others are asking." Smith declined to discuss specifics in terms of interested teams or what offers he has fielded. But it's known that the Green Bay Packers are highly interested in Turner. The Buffalo Bills also have interest.
You exagerrate. First of all, ALL the games matter in a 16 game season. Secondly, look at the Miami game. In a very tough spot, in a national game late in the season with the playoff hopes of several teams on the line. Chad brought us back from behind with that pass to Cotch over the middle for a TD. Two weeks prior, Miami shut out New England 21-0 on that same field. Believe me, in Cincy, in Denver, in Pittsburgh, the fans watching that Monday Nighter were giving Chad and the Jets props.
