There are plenty of first round picks -- hell, #1 in the draft picks -- who never sniff the field, or who embarrass themselves when they get there. Ease up already.
If you actually watch the games you'll see the reason they aren't getting that much pressure is because the Jets spend a majority of the time only rushing the 3 D-Linemen while dropping the LBs and DBs back into coverage. When called upon to make plays, Pace and Thomas have been outstanding.
Not a bad idea moving Pace inside,..............provided of course that Gholston could hold his own at OLB. We just have no idea because Pace & Thomas have been playing so well.
exactly, they should have run the ball more. But that didn't happen because it would have worked better.
We have a pretty talented starting line-up right now on both sides of the ball. Ideally, when you have that type of situation you let your rookie's develop behind the scenes and help out on special teams. Parcells has always said "For every rookie you start you lose a game". The lack of stats for Gholston maybe a GOOD thing for this team short term and long.
while i didnt like the gholston pick, and was against it from the end of the last college season, how about not being entirely wrong here? I was very afraid this would be exactly what we got with gholston, nothing. But come on. give the guy a chance and as far as "most invisible first round pick in the history of the league" crap goes, how about um, just as an example as its the first one that comes to mind, Carson Palmer? the guy was the #1 overall pick for christ's sake! he never played even a single snap his rookie year! he must have sucked ass! oh wait, never mind, in year two he kicked ass, and did much better in year 3, since then injuries have kept him from becoming elite. How about we give Gholston a year or two to give him a "boom, bust or indifferent" label?
Damn a guy we draft with the 6th overall pick to help us rush the QB has literally been invisible this whole season. I can understand letting him develop but absolutely no contribution from a 1st round top 6 pick 7 games into a season is bad.
I don't believe LBs and passrushers can ever learn by sitting on the sideline, the way a QB could.... So much of the position is about one-on-one matchups, hand speed/technique, and tenacity, that the only way to really improve is to get in there and mix it up.... No matter how many drills you do, and no matter how much you study, if an experienced OL gets a hold of your chest plates on your pads, and you haven't experienced it at that level before, you're not getting through him...
Yea but dude Carson Palmer was a QB trying to play QB in the NFL. Not only that, he was only the first overall pick so he had a reason to sit on the bench. If Palmer was as good as he's been in his career (besides this year), then he would have started from Day 1. Does that make sense? It should.
Gholston is invisible, but he didn't look good in TC or in preseason. Meanwhile Keller looked like a future HOFer in both TC and preseason and where is he know? Remember, Keller is 24, two years older than Gholston. Keller has the maturity to handle pressure cuz he's older, and since he's older we need to get some use out of him before he's out of his physical prime.
Can we let Gholston actually finish his rookie year before we compare his rookie year others? And it's not like he's been unproductive, he just hasn't done the obvious, in your face play fans want to see. It's not like he hasn't been getting pressure in your face, it just hasn't resulted in much right now. At least thats how I say it lol...cause every week I'm like "tf is he?" when I'm watching the game.
He didn't have a great rookie season, but he did do some positive things (47 tackles, 4.5 sacks). He started all 16 games at right defensive end. All Gholston is good for is looking all roidy on the sidelines.
Didn't anyone notice his one tackle yesterday while on the PR/KR team? Granted, he tackled his own man, but at least he made contact! Baby steps....
