But I thought that was what is going one here. The reason why the Yankees are the Met fans most hated team. I don't think i've seen the claimed "reason" on this board once this season.
Well first off the bolded part is a lousy generalization. Secondly, I just used what you said which applies to some Yankee fans as an argument, I don't even take Drob or Rogerblaze seriously however I could see how Mets fans would hate the Yankees after hearing point of views like theirs on a daily basis
Met fans claim they hear those point of views on a daily basis. Where? Is there a morning show or a parade everyday i am unaware of?
So are you trying to say that it doesn't exist, or are you saying that you know where every Met fan lives and knows all their Yankee fans that they are in contact with? I know for a fact without knowing anyone particularly that some Mets fans that you describe are indeed obsessed with Yankees. However to deny those Yankees fans I describe earlier would be ridiclously naive. Likewise that there are Jets fans who act just like Champ and Junc. However it only takes 1 loud, annoying and obnoxious one to get someone to hate your team.
It definetly exists. But every team has them. The Pats have plenty of them. And that is one example of a huge bandwagon following because they got away with playing in a high school stadium for years. But it's not their fans that make me hate them,it's them being a division rival and the fact that i am jealous of their championships.
Well for some people they hate teams because of fans like that an example of this is the hatred of Philadelphia teams on this site because of their asshole fans
I hate three professional franchises. Dolphins- obvious reasons as well as growing up with 3 really close friends who were Phish fans.. Knicks- As a kid I was a huge St Johns fan and never forgave them for picking Ewing instead of Mullin. Ewing BTW is my most hated athlete of all time, along with Marino Giants-No specific reason other than I'm a Jets fan.
Yankees fans take try to take the high road like they don't acre about the Mets. Yet 99% of them always have time for a nasty comment about the team.
Oh I know that now but try telling that to an 8 year old who loved Chris Mullin and wanted to become a Knicks fan..
Absolutely. That's absurd. Knicks win the draft lottery and they are supposed to pass on a 7-foot shot blocker who can shoot? Ewing turned out to be all he was advertized to be, and then some. I'd like someone to name the best player to ever play with Ewing. Starks? Oakley?...both were one time all-stars. Harper? Rivers?...both were old men by the time they got there. Batman needed Robin, ya know....and BTW, when Mullin was an alchoholic on Golden State he was offered straight up to the Knicks for Gerald Wilkens and the Knicks passed. If they knew he would go on to clean up his act they wouldda pulled the trigger, and in retrospect they shouldda, but who can predict those things?
Tell us then why the country rejoiced when the 2001 yankees lost.....why were the yankees in 96 and 98-2000 hated? they really were a bunch of likeable guys...the core at least...is jeter hateable? bernie, mariano, posada? There really was no reason to hate those yankee clubs other than you being jealous.....and dont give me the evil empire shit because the core of those teams were all yankee farm products...oops forgot pettitte too......tell me mr yankee hater, if it wasnt jealousy that made you rejoice in 01 what was it?????
I can relate. The Mets traded Dave Kingman when I was 10 and I never forgave them, that's why I became a Dodger fan. Kingman even came back when I was in high school, but it was way too late by then. Those formative years.
Well said. I think Ewing certainly justified his draft position, even if we didn't win a title with him. He did all he could do.
i had already read it....so youre saying the rest of the nation rejoiced because of obnoxious yankee fans? the guy in Iowa or Kansas city or Miami or San Francisco must run into the obnoxious yankee fan all the time. Is it Steinbrenner? nah I doubt it.....it truly is jealousy...maybe not even jealousy in the obvious sense.....maybe they got tired of seeing the yankees win and thats why they rejoiced....which is human nature, underdog yadda yadda......but the reality is my friend no matter how you slice it...the nation was rejoicing(your stupid words mind you) because they dislike the yankees because they win all the time...whether the word is jealousy or not, its because of the repeated success....success I might add< the like the Mets have never even dreamed of realizing
Huh. I seem to recall the nation actually kinda pulling for the Yanks in 2001, what with them representing NY after 9/11 and all that. Growing up, my neighborhood was filled with Mets fans, so Yanks/Mets was more of a rivalry for me, and I disliked the Mets. After moving to Boston in 94, I've learned that - although Mets fans might be petty at times - they have nothing on Sox fans. The worst part (and also the most pathetic, yet hilarious part) is the hypocrisy I see as summer turns to fall. Watching these Sox fans rail against these "arrogant and obnoxious" Yankee fans from April to May, talking about how much they hate them... and then turning into infinitely more arrogant and obnoxious Pats fans in the fall. They don't even realize they're doing it. It's just funny. For my Hate List, it's the Red Sox (mostly their fans, since I live with them every day), the Pats, and that's about it. If the Yanks are out, I have no problem rooting for the Mets. Well, usually. This year, after listening to some of the whiny Mets fans on WFAN complain about the Yankees getting attention or laughing at the Yankees' struggles, I wouldn't mind if the Mets coughed up the lead to the Braves or Phillies. It'd serve them right.
