I just personally can’t understand how anyone thinks putting a TikTok star in the locker room when you are trying to rebuild your culture and support the young quarterback would be a smarter move than locking up a pro bowl OL at our biggest position of need
Exactly! People are piling on JD now every time someone in the entire NFL is signed. We didn't have a shot at JuJu. The guy clearly wants to win a title now and took a huge discount. Why would he come to us? And how is that related to Tomlinson, who was actually a good signing at the position of need. I understand some of us who like Cooper, and who didn't have much of a choice to where he was traded, to be upset when another team got him. But now FA JuJu decided to play on the cheap with Mahomes, it's not JD's fault. Even Cooks, who presumably had an agreement with Rams to send him to destination of his choice, to be quite frank would not make me feel warm and fuzzy. Given the injuries we had last year, I think we need a healthy player signing at WR, not someone off ACL injury, who is 30. With all that said, JD is taking a major gamble at WR thus far. Market is drying up, and I for one want to see a competent FA WR added to the roster. Otherwise he is banking on WR draft picks to be really good, which is dangerous. Maybe he knows something we don't after coaching sr ball and thinks he can get a guy from there with later rounds, plus one at #10 and this will be enough. I am not sure though if this is good enough.
JuJu will go to KC on the cheap, catch 10 TDs, maybe get himself a ring, then re-enter free agency. Douglas will pay him a fortune next year, multi-year guaranteed and the very same people who are Douglas-apologists in 2022 for not signing him will be lauding the move as great in 2023 for signing him
I think the point most are making is that he wanted to go to a contender this year. This is firmly supported by the fact he signed a 3 mil deal with KC. Not much JD could do here.
Actually the best thing JD could have done was ignore a guy who has been a distraction for almost his entire career. Mission accomplished.
last year he had some money to spend. this was the 1st year we really had money to spend and had stability. lawson signing was rough because a freak injury. hard to blame JD for that. on paper it was great the davis signing was a steal when you look at what WRs are getting now. he had a down year but should bounce back. I think it'll be better to judge after this season
Lawson’s injury is not a “freak” injury lol. The guys been injured his entire career dating back to his sophomore year at Auburn.
If Lawson and Davis ball out this year, it would surely cancel out the “bad” injury year for sure. Would be nice to see that. Lawson say 10-12 sacks. And Davis 1000 yds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So this is part of the free agent fantasy thing - Jet's Style. When they signed Lawson and Davis last year we certainly were expecting numbers similar to the ones you put up above. This makes sense. We signed them to good contracts with guaranteed money. They were seen as mid-range free agents at their positions. Neither of them has ever achieved the numbers you quoted above. Those numbers are a fantasy. They're a free-floating free agent fantasy - Jet's Style. Now could either of them actually have their *best* seasons ever after becoming Jets? Sure. However it is important to note that they have had lots of opportunity to do that in the past and they didn't.
I personally can’t understand why anyone would want an injury prone and reportedly lazy WR in the locker room.
Sounds to me like JuJu is trying to resurrect his career. He's on his second 1 year deal in a row. Wonder why? Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Good article. I like the 2022 FA class so far. https://jetswire.usatoday.com/2022/...dj-reed-cj-uzomah-tyler-conklin-jacob-martin/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Its part of our offseason fantasy. Lawson isn't a 10-12 sack guy. His best season was six years ago where he got 8.5 sacks. His last two seasons he recorded 5, and 5.5. For reference: Leonard Williams has 1 less sack since he joined the Giants than Lawson has his entire career. Williams also has 138 tackles in red and blue, while Lawson has 81 over his whole career. The truth is we had a good player, misused him, and let him go to sign a downgrade. Now were looking to draft an upgrade. But for two weeks on the Jets Lawson was a training camp star, against us in practice, so to us that means he is a double digit sack guy.
we let him go because he played the same position as Q, were running a 3-4 and neither were good system fits really. the whole situation was a cluster from other GMs. I mean I love Q, don't get me wrong, but we should have just kept leo and drafted josh allen (edge) instead. would have been a perfect 3-4 rush OLB and even with the switch now would be a perfect DE
Technically, we should have moved Williams to true defensive end, drafted Devon White, and not signed Mosley. But that would have been way beyond Mac, and probably Greg Williams.
