I'm not completely fine w/ anything w/ regards to the last 3 weeks but our O wasn't pathetic yesterday and if our D played lik a big time D should we could have won that game. I don't care about the meaningless #s, the important stat is points. Did SD get more pts b/c they had les 3 and outs? No, they scored the same amount as us and their O actually cost them that game w/ all the TOs. Our O did not turn it over. Yeah not turning it over and scoring 3 offensive TDs is a vast improvement over what we did in Bal giving away 21 pts, scoring only 3 pts and not moving it all night long. Miami had 17 against NE, the last TD was in garbage time, Miami also played NE at home. It's awesome Buf had a bunch of drives over 25 yds, they scored just 6 more pts than we did AND they had FOUR Interceptions- we had one at the end of a half that we couldn't use on offense. It's great the Raiders had those drives- how many points did they score? they had 2 crippling TOs, we didn't have any. The bottom line is this offense is averaging 25 PPG if you remove the Baltimore debacle. The O isn't playing well yet but we should win 90% of our games if we score 25 pts w/ this defense but the D failed us AGAIN.
This is such a weak argument. Remove the bad stuff and its all good? They Scored 3 on the Ravens. Pitiful. They put up 17 on the Cowboy unless you want to hand that blocked punt to the offense. They Whollped the Jags for 32 and did fine against Oakland, but still had issues on third down. They put up 14 points on thier own and had to be set up just outside of the red zone by McKnight for another score against the pats. They are not controlling the clock like Rex expects. You say it was "only" an 8 min diference in the pats game. Only? We spotted them an extra half a quarter on offense. Outside of our slow march in the 4th quarter on offense we had one other drive last over two mins of clock. This is awful against a team that gives up yards like no other. I did mention they only good thing they did was not turn the ball over. Thats still no excuse for going 3-11 on third down. I see you don't like stats because you hate to argue in facts that do not support you, so here's another one. They are 20-74 on the season on third down. We are supposed to be a ball controll offense. Exactly how can we sustain these long drives that Rex expects when we can't stay on the field on third down? They were 4-12 against a weak Jags team. Thats not just the last 3 weeks its been a problem, but a season long thing. Your still complaing that our D is not a big time D. Why about our offense barley playing like an NFL squad? How about they show up in the first half sometime soon? Maybe hold the ball over two minuets or convert some third downs? If we did not have this joke of a squad that gets to conveintly forget about thier worst games to look better we could easily have won the Pats game.
The Ravens game was brutal but it was one awful game. The D has had mutliple bad games. Even if you include the Raven game it's still 20 PPG which should be more than enough for a D that is as good as ours is supposed to be. You harp on meaningless #s, it's about points. Sure we want the yards and 3rd down #s to increase but if we are scoring enough that other stuff doesn't matter. The O is not playing well but they are still scoring outside of one game. This O is going to get better, it's more disturbing to me to see the D playing as poorly as it has. If we have 4 more mins in TOP the teams are even for the game. AGAIN, it was a 2 min difference at the half and the D had 12 mins to rest then gave up a quick TD then after we scored to pull w/in 6 the TOP difference was only 2 mins. I'm tired of the excuses fort he D, people are acting like our O is the only reason we are struggling but this D is just as much at fault- if not more at fault b/c we are a defnse first team. Philly is 6th in the league in 3rd down %, how is that working out for them? The Lions are 21st. Those are nice stats to bash our O but just like last year when sanchez had lesser #s but had a good year- stats don't tell us everything we need to know. 20 PPG through 5, 25 if you take out the one horrible game- we're still scoring, still keeping us in games but in oak the D had a chance to make a stop and give us a chance and failed, in NE the D had a chance to make a stop and give us a chance and failed. This is a D first team and they aren't playing like it no matter what excuses you want to make for them.
Yes, if those catches get made the drives would have been extended and if memory serves, all three of those were catchable.
1 awful offensive game + 3 mediocre offensive games + 1 bad offensive game = 2 wins, 3 losses Part of the problem is that your offense can't stay on the field, so your defense is out there more than it needs to be. A team may want to be a "defense first team" but you can't be that if you don't have the personnel. Detroit doesn't have to worry about third down efficiency that much because Stafford throws 50 yards to Megatron and it's six points. It takes the Jets 10-12 plays to go 50 yards. The Jets are scoring 24.2 points per game (top teams are scoring > 30) and giving up 25 points per game (top teams are giving up < 20). Neither unit is particularly good, but you're willing to give the offense a pass while crucifying the defense. Well, other posters don't see it quite that way. You also don't get to lop off "bad games" in order to pretend that a unit is better than it is. The plain fact is that if the offense played better, the defense wouldn't be on the field as much. Having 7 or 8 three-and-outs and only 14 first downs for the entire game is NOT a prescription for beating the Patriots -- or most other teams.
I hate to say it but judging from post counts alone, he's been a citizen here a lot longer than you, so I suspect he can say what he pleases and he ain't all that wrong in what he's saying. If those three catches had been made, the drives would have been extended, confidence might have been built but they weren't caught, how is that Shotty's fault? Not saying he's the second coming of, (choose your favorite OC), but players have to execute, especially when the balls hitting them in the hands.
