Remember the article about Saleh putting players in poor positions and his scheme not being that good. These guys simply cannot be converted into LB, if that’s what they need then go and draft a LB, do not try to convert a 215lb safety into a LB that gets crushed like the football tackle dummy sled.

What article is that? I haven't heard of such an article and haven't seen one posted here that stated those things.

I think he's probably referencing this article, from the Saleh year-end grade thread:

Who in the heck is Timmy Gibson? He looks like some college kid. Saleh did do an excellent job with SF's defense when a lot of the "stars" were injured. Still, even a broken clock is right twice a day, and it could be a valid criticism. It bears monitoring. If he goes back to his super aggressive D approach at the beginning of next season after an infusion of talent this offseason and the D reverts to shit, then the story will have some legs.

The only players I can really remember successfully making the transition were Thomas Davis and Mark Barron. Thomas Davis was 225 coming out and Mark Barron took four years out of college to make the transition after starting as a strong safety.

Isaiah Simmons - sort of, but he was pretty much a linebacker coming out.

All three were first round picks. To think we could throw some sixth round darts and it might work out was a bad oversight to walk into the year with such limited LB depth with these two as backups.

I really like what I saw of #44 and #45 playing together early in the season. I still have hope in these two.

Let them beef up and get another season in the system. They didn’t have no impact but curious what the Jets do at the LB spot…figure at least a replacement for Jarrad Davis and another LB comes to challenge Quincy. (I like Quincy btw)

Give me Nakobe Dean or give me death.

All DWC kidding aside, I had some reasonable expectations for Hamsah and he met none of them.

He's the same size as the 49ers WILL so I'm not sure size is the issue.

I'm not familiar with the article, can you post it for us?

Marcel Harris just made the switch to LB for the year of 2021 if he’s the one you are referring to. He also has not been an impactful player at that weight for San Francisco.

Jamien Sherwood for Jets is also 215 and was getting dominated by the offensive linemen all year, when he played. It was obvious in preseason Sherwood was not capable of playing LB at that weight.

The Eagles preseason game is where the Jets run defense was exposed up the middle because of weak LB play.

I posted the article, paragraph by paragraph in the Saleh year end thread. It was an article that essentially said that Salehs defensive scheme is not great unless he has all star players. When he doesn’t have those type of players it’s a mediocre scheme at best because he doesn’t scheme well and puts players in wrong positions which hurts the defense.

There were some calling for Saleh to be fired in San Francisco because of it.

I read the article. They mention the defense was better when they had better players (duh) but I didn’t see any reference to playing players in wrong positions. I wasn’t too impressed with the writer who suggested in another article they should start Lance beginning in week 4… the 49ers don’t go to the playoffs if they start Lance in week 4.

    Here’s the writers bio.

This x10000000. Loved the strategy of taking talented but position-less players late in the draft. But these two can not play LB in the NFL. It was obvious early on.

On a positive note Hamseh did much better than the other player that DWC massively hyped in Shaq Lawson. Hamsah made a strong impact this year on special teams being one of the leaders in special team snaps. Which likely, should earn him a spot on the roster next year.

With all the problems the jets had at safety, why don't they let the drafted safeties play safety instead of LB? In other words, move him back to safety for 2022 and see what happens.

They may do that, but either way, there will be a hole either at S or LB until FA and the draft. They'll probably give them one more year at LB, and then move one or both of them back to S
