McDonald allegedly had 3 sacks last year? Idk about the statistician there but anyway, he's an older player for his tenure, and they let Huff go, Reddick is out, now's the time for him to step up

Meanwhile in Pittsburgh, they are having trouble figuring out if Broderick Jones or Troy Fautanu is better at starting at left tackle. Both are capable of starting.

This sounds about right based on all the reports from the training camp. Clemons, who is just OK depth player, is slightly ahead as he a better run defender, while McD was asked to gain weight and completely failed, now mostly getting second team snaps. He is now 25 years old btw and no longer a rookie. There is really no excuse for someone of his age and pedigree to be behind Clemons. From what I can tell - a disappointment.

As much good as JD has done this offseason, this entire handling of the position, going back to pick swap, drafting McD, not resigning Huff and trading for a disgruntled guy instead, releasing JFM instead of keeping him for peanuts, has been absolutely disastrous. And Reddick knows it. We stupidly and absolutely unnecessarily were put in a situation where we might need Reddick almost as much as he needs us. McD not taking a step forward is just a shit stain on top.

    Three mistakes here

First, the pick swap from 13 to 15 with GB was terrible…it felt to most that it was caving too fast…should have let it sit and let GB be the one to cave…they were going to move on from Rodgers and it’s hard to imagine that not doing the pick swap would have nixed the trade. But to be fair, we weren’t in the room and don’t know. Still, from the outside, it surely looked unnecessary at the time. That swap cost us the opportunity to draft the last top tackle

Second, the decision to let Huff walk wasn’t great…a homegrown undrafted player at a premium position who plays it well. That’s the kind of guy you keep. He may have let him walk because he didn’t want to tie up dollars knowing he’s going to have to deal with new huge contracts for GW, Sauce, and Breece, so I get that. But still…would have been nice to get creative on a deal to keep Huff.

Third, trading for a guy who we all knew wanted a new deal without either signing the player to a new deal right away or at least making the trade contingent on a new deal doesn’t look great right now. I get that they talked to the player and he told them what they wanted to hear by saying he’d show up, but words are words and clearly he didn’t mean whatever it was he said. Because sure as shit, had he told the truth and told JD he wasn’t going to play without a new deal, that trade probably goes down differently.

Anyway, its all old news now…only thing we can do is figure a way to sign the dude and get him here.

I think a 4th is not selecting Jaxon once the board fell the way it did. Nothing against McD--even if he becomes an all-pro and Jaxon sucks, the right pick at the time given all the information available that I know of was Jaxon IMO.

I thought that maybe JD had info regarding Jaxon's leg but given the 2023 season, its obvious that there was nothing permanent about his senior year injury. Holy shit would things be different now if we had him in the slot.

The Jets have made some great draft picks over the last few years but I will never understand their embrace of older prospects.

Age is highly correlated with prospect success across all positions. The younger a prospect is at the time he's drafted, the better his chances of success are. Guys who are better younger in college are just better football players, all else equal. It's one of the most established things in draft strategy.

Interestingly enough, it looks like pretty much all of this comes down to that moronic pick swap. Losing top OT, then being forced to reach with #15 for the next best guy on the board, who happened to play same position as Huff, then not extending Huff for cheap since we just drafted a replacement, then not wanting to pay Huff market price, since we could have had him on the cheap a year before, then instead going after a disgruntled guy to get anther true pass rusher, then losing JFM to only save a few mil to pay that guy. All could have been avoided if JD didn't rush to blow his load when GB had no other option but to agree to the deal without it.

    And it wasn't just JSN.

Zay Flowers and Jordan Addison were also available. They both had 70+ receptions and 850+ yards their rookie years. Either one of them would've easily been our 2nd best WR last year, if not competing for best.

If I recall, JD didn't have a first round grade on any of them.

JD really is a head scratcher sometimes. He does some very smart things and some unbelievably dumb things. Very bizarre.

From a quick google search with string "link between obesity and brain function"

Over the years, a variety of research studies on both small and large groups of children and adults. Studies have found obesity impacts brain volume, executive function skills, cognitive development and can lead to a higher risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

I'm assuming a Hassan contract will emerge soon and he'll be starting over Clemons, at least he'd better.

The Jets have to take a zero tolerance policy stance on Reddick. They likely made a promise to sweeten this year’s deal but not to commit long term. At some point they have to give a deadline and stick to it. Reddick’s team is not acting in good faith here. If he doesn’t show by a certain point then pull any options to sweeten this year’s deal off the table. If he goes past any other deadline then just deactivate him and eat it. This team is too close to be dealing with a self inflicted headache.

I do generally agree about a tough stance, but is Clemons now our starter in this case? At least if we didn't stupidly give up JFM for nothing it would be a no brainer to tell Reddick to fuck off. We are in a tough spot now.

Have to think if we draft JSN, we still have Huff, don't make the Reddick deal

Old McDonald better be on the field this year is all I can really say

Outside of the 2022 draft, if you take a look at what Douglas has done in the early rounds, it's been pretty dismal to say the least. His first two first rounders aren't even on the team anymore, as neither made it to the end of their rookie contracts. If he had any idea what he was doing, it wouldn't have taken the full six years of his contract to turn this team around from where it was when he got here. We've just had such awful personnel in the front office that Douglas, a terrible GM in his own rite, looks great by comparison.

Right, but what is Reddick gonna do, not show at all and force another year with the Jets and no new contract plus all the fines? Reddick has no leverage. I wouldn’t answer the phone at all. Tell him and his agent if they want to play football this year, show up now. If not, see ya next year we can do this again.

The jury is still out on whether Huff is a starter or a specialist. Giving him a deal was never going to be a slam dunk. Philly is finding out right now that he's not ready to be a 3-down player yet.

I don't get what all the fuss is about. They are not winning anything with or without Reddick, I mean it is just as easy to go 7-10 with or without a certain player. Remember who the HC/OC are. Does anyone seriosly think a team coached by Robert Saleh / Nathan Hackett are winning more than 5-7 games?

Well said. They don't have a chance with those two (and Douglas) running this ship.

Until we have a coaching (and GM) change, the only thing the Jets will be pursuing is the all-time playoff drought record, to which they are just more than halfway to.
