Not one 1st rounder QB in the 2011 draft has been better than 7th rounder Greg McElroy. NO NOT ONE! Greg McElroy is NFL ready, when was the last time you have seen a rookie come in and dominate? He is something very special. It usually takes a rookie 2 to 3 years to develop (Revis anyone?) Mangold and Harris are the only other players I see besides McElroy who came in to this team and made an immediate impact. Give credit where credits due. Some players come in their rookie season and you know they are going to be probowlers. Harris has been ditched and negleted by the NFL and by all rights, should have been in the probowl since day one. He just quitely does his job and in my opinion is the best if not one of the best ILB in the entire NFL period! So leave me alone when I talk about McElroy. He is a shooting star and will take over this team, I hope some day. He has mental and physical toughness that Sanchez does not have. I like him, not pro McElroy over Sanchez, but he is one tought cookie. I like Sanchez, but we stuck gold in 7th round McElroy.
He's definitely the Joe Montana of Jets backups at least if the only other person on the list is Kellen Clemens. Going to have to see a tiny bit more from this guy before I hail him as a good starting option. Funny, I'd like to not see him get the chance to prove himself when it matters.
It's not a big deal at all it's the thumb on his throwing hand. Besides, if Willy sticks around that'll mane fantasy team names that much better. "Short and Kerley Willy"
Tom Brady 7th rounder Joe Montana 7th rounder Greg McElroy 7 rounder Same class, same mentality, tough as nails. All are winners with no chance of making it in the NFL. Go figure
Except Montana was a 3rd round pick and Brady a 6th (after crying when he didn't get picked earlier).
He was also playing with an offensive line that would have let Vernon Gholston get through for a sack
McElroy has to be damm happy that the preseason is over. Any more time behind that pourous offensive line and his limbs would have started to fall off while on the field.
Mcelroy was a good 7th round pick but if the Jets were planning on not keeping Brad Smith they should have picked Tyrod Taylor from Virginia Tech in an earlier round. He has killed it as a backup QB and has the speed and quickness to have filled in for a Brad Smith type role.

I had a similar injury where I dislocated my thumb and fractured it in three places playing football. Of course from the sound of it mine was worse. I had to get surgery and three pins put in my thumb, it took about 12 weeks for the pins to come out and another 8 weeks for me to get mobility back in it. Luckily it was on my non throwing hand, but it still hurts when I catch a football. Hopefully this isn't as bad.
Brad wasn't a QB for us, we were looking for a long term backup and found one. kerley(and maybe LT) will be getting the WC package which I hope we don't see much of.
The WC will not be nearly as effective without the threat of the pass. Even though Brad didn't throw the ball much out of the formation, the receivers ran routes and cornerbacks and even safeties had to respect the pass. With LT or Kerley there is no threat to pass and one on one will be enough coverage. Definitely not as effective.
did you watch last week when kerley through a 20 yard pass out of it. Looked just fine for me for a wildcat offense. I would not want to use my draft pick for a backup qb on a wildcat guy
