So it looks like we traded Sanders and a pick for Harvin.

    Brilliant!!

Good thing we didn't draft Tom Brady.

Only idiots think hindsight makes them insightful.

Bryant isnt really hindsight though. That easily should have been the pick if we were going WR in the 4th round...the two guys we took were inferior prospects which most fans had identified before the draft.

Because superior prospects have never busted out in the NFL? How many better receiver prospects than Bryant were drafted ahead of him that the Jets also didn't draft that haven't worked out but are conveniently not being discussed.

This thread is based on hindsight because his success as a prospect was mere speculation but is being applauded as if it were a guarantee simply because he has been successful. That is hindsight.

Its well documented the Jets have no idea what they're doing on draft day- specifically at the skill position. It's difficult to see this as hindsight....when everyone had Bryant ranked higher than Saunders/Evans.

It's hindsight because it is based simply on the fact that he has performed. If he busted this thread wouldn't exist. That's hindsight -- applying a known element to a situation when it was unknown and acting like it should have been known. It could only have been speculation not known during the draft.

It's kind of funny when you think about it. The Jets brass go to Clemson to scout their offense and they come away thinking that Tajh Boyd is the guy worth drafting.

News Flash: Hindsight is how "draft success" is measured. So Idzik's draft grades are poor as properly measured in hindsight. Now couple that fact that if one were to simply press the rewind button and look at mock drafts posted on this very forum by internet amateurs and also by "professional draft experts" which universally had (now measured in hindsight) the Jets taking better talent across the board and in just about all instances would have had the Jets taking at least 1 WR who has already shown very good NFL skills in real games this year, all paint a very damning picture of Idzik's draft acumen.

how is it that you're always so argumentative...the overall point is that there's about a dozen rookie WRs already making an impact and that this past draft was possibly the best WR draft in history and we came away with NOBODY. And it isn't really hindsight when everyone was wondering during the draft why the hell we weren't getting a big play receiver

Stop it. Please. There are numerous rook WRs playing well this year. This class was considered far and away the best receiver group in a decade. There's no hindsight about it. Bryant is merely one example of how poorly Idzik did.

And there are undoubtedly numerous receivers not playing well. It's hindsight to pick out those that meet your needs and claim their success was obvious because they are playing well and ignore the others because they aren't.

We're talking about history. Historically WRs like Bryant provide much more future value than midgets like Saunders. Simple.

    It's just flawed scouting.

Agree in full.....the last 2 drafts have been stuffed with WR talent. For the jets to not come away with at least 1 contributor/starter at that position is criminal. Forget the TE pick and forget the FA signing of decker and trade for Harvin. ......

Decker may not have been a necessity at the time. With Harvin, u likely make that move regardless of ur WR depth.

And if they didn't have to pay decker then maybe our CB position would have been taken care of with a bit more urgency.

A lot of these decision makers don't fully recognize that any single personnel move can have far reaching effects across several positions.

That's not the discussion that he should have been drafted because of his size. The argument is that he should have been drafted because he has performed after the fact. Applying knowledge of what happened after the decision was made to evaluate the decision is hindsight not a discussion of the historical success of wide receivers based on size.

This thread is out of control.

Where are all these amazing WR's at? WTF?

Did we miss on some guys, probably. My problem with this thread is that there a lot of people acting like there was so many options out of the dozen amazing receivers in this draft.

    Kelvin Benjamin - 40rec/412yds

    Brandon Cooks - 42rec/410yds

    Jordan Matthews - 32rec/313yds

    Davante Adams - 24rec/263yds

    Allen Robinson - 43rec/488yds Jags

    Jarvis Landry - 30rec/301yds

    Donte Moncrief - 17rec/218yds

    John Brown - 24rec/326yds

    Martavis Bryant - 10rec/167yds

    Marquise Lee - 12rec/128yds

These are the only real productive rookie receivers thus far in the year. None of them have mind blowing production though. I don't get the bitching, I feel like so many on this board want to hold onto anything they can because they are so used to the chaos. Where would we all be without it, right?

    Eric Decker - 40rec/426yds

    Percy Harvin - 36rec/284yds

    Jeremy Kerley - 26rec/237yds

    Jace Amaro - 32rec/285yds

Just to put it into perspective. Saunders was a clear bust, it happens. Evans is still a question mark. Oh, well.

Picking up Harvin, having Decker and Kerley. It doesn't matter at this point about what we did in the draft at WR. When you really think about it.

Our scouting department wants to keep drafting injury prone players because 'value' and "shifty" wrs over bigger ones, have fun with the consequences.

    So you post some stats.

Just take a look at Big Ben's stats with Martavius Bryant in the lineup and not. All of those rookie WRs, most of them at least, will continue to flourish. They're just rookies after all. Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins will be their team's WRs1 for the next 5-10 years. ODB is already better than Roob Randle.

All of the other guys have made impacts, especially Allen Robinson, a third round pick with vg athleticism and size.

We give Jace Amaro no targets and start Jeff Cumberland. That's very smart strategy.

Our scouting department has overlooked and misfired on skilled position players. This was just another example. But go with your narrative.

This isn't about Martavis Bryant it's about the numerous drafting errors we've made and this is just one. Agree to disagree.

I DO care that we pass on big targets with upside for smurfs. If that's hindsight I'm don't care at all.

It's bad process by our team.

You left off touchdowns which is a big stat given our anemic red zone offense.

Each of those rookies are getting considerably less than 5-7mm per year.

Have to compare those rookies to David Nelson who was getting a larger snap count yet finishes with 6/63 and two fumbles which meaningfully limited offense and Geno.

We didn't have Harvin all year and our WR deficit may have cost us a few games.
