At the time he signed he was in no position to be a starter anywhere. He had no idea where he was in his shoulder surgery rehab. If he was still months and months away--which he didn't know--how was he going to claim to want to be a starter? It wasn't until the past 2 months that he's been 100% healthy, even he admitted it himself. If he was feeling like this in February, if he was throwing like this in Feburary then yeah he should have reached for a starters job. He wasn't healthy enough. Besides, Chip Kelly University is a great place to learn for a year. _
he didn't fail, most playoff wins for starting QB in franchise history by DOUBLE. That is a success. Through 3 years he had 6 games w/ 3 or more INTs and 4 of them came in his rookie year. to act like he did that week after week is not being fair.
Mark 2012 was an aberration. No QB would have succeeded, not only did we have little talent, we had no depth, we had Sparano as OC bringing in new system, we added Tebow who had no shot to play QB but was a constant distraction and then our 2 best weapons on O missed most of the season.
If failing includes playoff wins and conference championship games, I pray Geno fails as miserably or worse than Sanchez.
I don't know about you, but I want a Jets SUPERBOWL APPEARANCE AND VICTORY. Did Mark during his tenure do that? No. So to just be happy about a few playoff wins and a 2 conference game appearances is not enough.
we had 2 title game apps since the merger from 1970-2008, we got 2 in mark's 4 years here. you can't get to a SB w/o reaching a title game first and in both title games we didn't lose b/c of the QB. if our supposed big time D played like a big time D in those title game apps we'd have at the very least 2 SB apps. the difference btw the '07/'11 Giants and '09/'10 Jets was the play of the DEFENSES in the title games.
Mark isn't on the team anymore - he failed as the starting QB of the Jets - it's simple as that, blame should be spread around. Tannebaum failed, Schotty failed, Rex failed. Mark needed a change of scenery. I am glad we went along for the ride but LOSING those games caused more harm to the team then good. Time to move forward.
Sanchez is like that ex girlfriend you have that just can't leave your mind. You broke up because things clearly were not working but yet you always think about her and see her and wonder how different things would be if you were still together. She seems changed for the better but you know it's too late and you missed out on your opportunity. LMAO
This gets to what Mark told me when I met him a year ago: the team wasn't doing all the tests that they should.
That was a DEBACLE and showed me that Tannenbaum was clueless....I saw at least 15 Oakland games before that time as I spent time in San Jose. The guy was CLEARLY not thrown to because the run-D stunk. He NEVER shut down any top receivers and was CLEARLY overrated. This garbage about him being 1-B to Revis being 1-A was ridiculous. Anybody who knows how to evaluate film knew this guy was BARELY a Top 5 cornerback, and maybe not even Top 10. He wasnt' better than Cromartie when Cromartie was on his game.
Bad on Rex then, but the GM and the Player Personnel dept. should have been watching tape. If it was clear to PT football junkies like me that the guy was a good but not great (let alone outstanding) CB, then guys whose job it is to evaluate players should have known this was a waste after a few hours of film.
I don't think Rex thought he was anywhere near Revis but he was still a good corner. I would trust rex's judgement over mine when it comes to defense.
