It's not like Pittsburgh is a sure bet against their remaining schedule either. Why is it crazy to think they can beat the Patriots and still end up seeded third? To say one point of view is more "realistic" or "logical" than the other at this point is just being arrogant.
Yes, the Jets are most likely in the playoffs. And what's to say the Jets don't lose a game, the Pats win out and we have to play ON THE ROAD in the Wild Card game because we missed out on winning the division?
I don't call it arrogant, I call it logical. The Jets have an awesome shot at the playoffs. If they don't make it to the playoffs they will have totally collapsed. You don't want to play an extra game. The best scenario is to have a bye. If you can't see that I can't help you.
So you're more worried about playing on the road than you are about getting a bye week. I guess that's one view.
No, I'm worried first and foremost about winning the division. Any coach will tell you that's the #1 goal, win your division. Once you've got that wrapped up, you then worry about what seed you are.
How is it logical to assume that the Steelers will win out if they beat NE? Again they play 3 teams with over .500 records but I guess they'll just crush them while losing to the Patsies right? Sorry If I think the Pats have a better chance of beating Seattle, Oakland, Arizona, and Buffalo vs. Pittsburgh's Dallas, Baltimore, Tennessee, & Cleveland.
Actually any coach will tell you the #1 goal is getting into the playoffs. The next goal is to advance once you get there. Playing one less game is cleary the best way to accomplish that goal.
Hmmm, winning the division or making the playoffs...seems like the first brings the 2nd(not to mention homefield at the worst in round 1).
Yea, and they got in as the wild card and still won the Superbowl. Therefore I'm not as worried about getting that bye right now as I am about shutting the door on the Pats.
You're totally misunderstanding the argument here. Everybody is looking for the bye. The discussion here is that people rooting for Steelers think it's better to have Pitts knock the Patsies off our tail and still end up the #3 seed behind the #2 Jets, while those rooting for the Patsies think NE have no shot at catching up to our 1 game lead.
RT is correct, you're crazy. If the Giants goal had been that of winning their division, the failed. However, their goal was to make it to the playoffs, hence they achieved their goal. If you don't see the logic there I can't explain it any better.
I'm not missing the argument. I don't agree with it. You first goal is to get into the playoffs, your second goal is getting a bye in the first round. It's really not that complicated. The Jets should be able to beat any team left on their schedule. If they do that and Pittsburgh also wins out the Jets don't get the bye. Hence you root for the Steelers to lose as long as they are ahead of the Jets.
To get in the playoffs who btw lost the division by 3 and played 3 road games on route to the Super Bowl.
How can you say the #1 goal is to get the bye and then site the Giants of last year who won the superbowl as a wild card team to support your argument? That's just retarded.
Don't call me retarded because you're too stupid to understand the argument. And stop misquoting me. I never said the #1 goal is to get the bye. I said the #1 goal is to get into the playoffs and the #2 goal is get the bye. I then said that unless the Jets totally fall apart they will make the playoffs. Hence, you want to get the bye, which means you want Pittsburgh to lose.
I didn't call you retarded, I called your argument retarded. And to end this argument right now, I'll just tell you what MY #1 goal is: #1: Win the division so there's no chance of playing the Pats on the Rd #2: Get one of the top 2 seeds. Pittsburgh and Tenessee are both in sight even if Pittsburgh wins next week.
