Glad to hear it. I have no problem with redemption, and being able to move on after paying your dues (particularly when you acknowledge your guilt), but sending a disapproving signal is okay by me too.
After getting only 1 hit through 8 innings, the Phils are rallying against Arizona. It's 4-2, man on third, none out, and Valverde is coming in.
I idsagree. As bad as Gomez has looked, I don't think he was worse than Milledge was last year, especially in Boston.
Fenway is a weird outfield to play on, Gomez has shown that he's afraid of walls and takes awful routes to almost every ball hit to him.
Gomez hasn't looked bad; he's shown impressive range. He's just learning a new outfield position, which isn't easy. That also accounts for some of Milledge's difficulties, another natural centerfielder.
Good point. I think Gomez is still raw though, and he isnt used to playing right field, (which is no excuse for over running balls and slipping in the outfield) but i think he'll come around. What worries me is that he's starting to remind me of Alex Escobar when he hits, and that may turn out to be a disaster.
One "silver lining" of Gomez struggling is that it may make Minaya think two or three times before he ever pulls the plug on trading Milledge.
I'm 100% unconcerned about Gomez struggling. He's not near Major League ready and shouldn't be expected to be at this point. He wouldn't have even been called up after Alou's injury had Johnson and Milledge not been DL'ed at the time. Omar always likes to promote players aggressively and give them an early taste of the majors to see what they can do. It's a good experience for Gomez.
Agreed 100%. When they send Gomez down for more seasoning, at least now he will know how much he has to improve in certain areas.
Anyone that gives up an XBH to Vizquel should immediately be removed from the game before it's too late.
