At least someone was paying attention.
He was ok but should be way ahead of where he is at this point in his career. At least he showed a little something.

Happy with VG after that game, stats dont tell the whole story, thought he was solid without being impressive. Some people just want him to fail so they can say that they were right

At this point in his career? This was his very first career start; he wasn't doubled on every play, but when he wasn't he was pushing linemen into the qb. For the love of God quit bitching already, he played fine.

I saw him collapse the pocket several times, esp on Westerman's sack

His run support was awful. He still has trouble shedding blocks. He did apply some pressure. He seems only to be useful as a situational/3rd and long type LB. That's fine if he wants to make 500k/year, but for what he's getting paid, it's bull. He better turn into Abe Jr. with a quickness.

i guess all those running yards the Def gave up was all VG's fault. ALL WHOPPIING "38" OF THEM!

It is really amazing me to me how even after a great win in which VG did his job some of these so called jets fans actually want to come in here and bitch about a young guy who is busting his ass and played pretty damned well. Unfreakingbelievable. I could maybe understand it if VG was some kind of a jackass as a person - but the truth is that he is one of the nicest, most down to earth players of the entire team. WTF is up w/you people? You have no frikking clue what you are talking about because you are unable to realize that VG is doing what he is being asked to do by the defensive scheme & plays that Rex Ryan is using. Seriously people just want to find something to bitch about even when there is nothing to bitch about.

It makes them feel better about themselves to bash someone. Pretty sad really.

they were guys that admitted to bashing the jets selection on mark sanchez because they knew that the cameras liked to snatch up images of Jet fans lamenting their teams draft pick, considering the long history of questionable picks the team has made. When sanchez was drafted they acted like it was the wrong move because they wanted to show up on tv.

Fuckin Gholston, playing well in a defensive shut out. What a piece of shit. We definitely would have held that team to negative points if we drafted Jerod Mayo.

He was drafted as a project and he's slowly but definitely been improving, let's just hope he keeps it up.

Yes, but they would have also forfeited by half time. :metal:

Gholston plays well with his hand in the dirt lined up at as an end in a 4-3 alignament which they used quite often. So far not as good as a stand up linebacker. He won't ever be Lawrence Taylor and he won't really ever justify being the 6th pick overall but he is productive and he is getting better. Westerman, while a very nice free agent pickup, is much more a situational player than Gholston. Westermans role is only as a standup linebacker. He does not have the size or strength to play DE in a 4-3 alignment in the NFL. Westerman is better at getting to the QB than Gholson at this point but he is not as valuable to the overall defense.

You want him to be injury-prone and one-dimensional?

I'm sitting on the fence on Gholston at this point. He really wasn't much more than a JAG out there today but he also wasn't a hole, and the Jets had a great game on defense and shut down a team that can score in their own house.

I will say that I never thought I'd see somebody line up at LB for the Jets who made Victor Hobson look quick but Gholston is right on the edge of doing that.

For those who thought Bart Scott had a worse day than Gholston: you guys are nuts. Scott had a huge effect on the other Jets, particularly Harris who got freed up all day because Scott was taking on a guard or blitzing the inside channel while Harris got to go off tackle. I'd take this kind of game out of Scott all year long and be happy.

You have no clue as to what you are talking about. You and those morons that bash VG for no apparent reason. He was not spectacular by any means but he was solid and collapsed the offense in many occasions.
Please people stop with this ignorance

Gholston was solid if unspectacular today. He didn't make a lot, of plays but didn't give any up. Having said that he is MUCH improved from last year's Casper like play. He showed some of that workout warrior talent when he was pushing the lineman ALL THE WAY to the sidelines, into Slaton while being blocked AND STILL tackled him for a loss. Very impressive play. With Gholston it's baby steps. We all knew he was going to be a project however he was so bad last year maybe people forgot he was never being talked up as an instant impact player. Because he has showed he can be a player in this league I support Vernon 100%. Keep building on your progress Gholston!!!!
