I have read about Glazer's MMA work with NFL guys and for the most part, the players it has helped are generally good NFL players already. They at least had the fundamentals down, and the MMA helped with things like body control and understanding leverage against opponents. Glazer also talked about how NFL guys have said after MMA workouts that they thought they already did hard workouts, but that this was beyond anything they had done before....so Glazer also notes that there is a mental benefit to the training, and that it must somehow translate to the football field, maybe by giving these guys the will to keep going late in a game when they're tired. If Glazer or Couture or any of the guys they work with had Gholston in the gym to try and instill mental toughness, and they planned to push him beyond the point he thought he could get to, I can see Vernon just saying he's done and hitting the showers.
remember this? http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-training-camps/09000d5d809c0c40/Mangini-on-Gholston-s-progress gotta try something different.
If anything, this just solidified that this guy is a greedy fuck who only was in it for the paycheck. Sure we all had our suspicions, but this pretty much proves that he's a total assbag and a waste of space on our roster. Not only should he be cut, but he should get his ass kicked by his teammates for robbing this team of money they could have spent elsewhere. We obviously aren't going to ever get anything out of him. Reading this makes me more angry than disappointed. Fuck this dickhead.
I was expecting this thread to mention that this could be the year where he provees hes no useless. And the fact that he (supposedly) pussed out of mma training, im giving up completely on this guy
You "heard" Gholston declined to train with MMAthletics? I'm still looking and waiting for your source! If no source is forth-coming this is just another knee jerk, emotional VG is a bust post as useless has the subject ,and the other one billion VG is a bust posts, have been to this point.
I vaguely recall another gholston thread where folks discussed that the Jets cutting him this year would save very little on the cap or in what they pay out in the end, and the wise decision would be to cut him after this year? I have a friend who's a big Ohio State fan, he always asks about Gholston and i just shake my head and the word bust is usually the last things said. At least the jets got 4 starts out of him last year. And maybe this year if he contributes on ST's that would be something in return for the big paycheck.
Someone mentioned Glazer's twitter but I cannot find anything that mentions Gholston going back to January accept for one guy in April asking Glazer if he would have Gholston train with him. Nothing of Gholston skipping out on workouts.
Belicheck would trade a 2nd round pick for gholston today if he thought he could exploit gholston's talents. here's why....belicheck has been considered a definsive 'god' for years. but now 'the rex' has taken is thunder. belicheck HAS to be quietly fuming. belicheck would love to take a 'rex failure', ie gholston, and show the world how it's done.
Is it the drafter or the draftee who is the bust? If the Saint Louis Rams came to you and offered to draft you as their Pick in the NFL draft First over all...Are you gonna tell me your not signing that shit????
This is directly from Glazers Twitter. RT @Kevin747747: @Jay_Glazer Can you get Vernon Gholston to train with you, please!>I want him to BIG TIME! Dude would really benefit (April 15th if you care to scroll through)
I'm not surprised he's not doing MMA training. Does anyone think the guy's problems are with strength or agility? If anything, those are the things that he CAN do. Gholston's problem is all between his ears. He's the worst when it comes to positioning himself or being instinctive. He's horrible and knowing what's going on, reading a play, or knowing how to complete an assignment. More than once, I've seen him on tape completely miss what was going to happen, whiff and let up yardage. Let's face it, the guy's just not that bright. Good players have an instinct for where the play is going. Good players can sense when another player is going to do something. Good players can fake out other players and make them think they're going to do one thing when it's really something else. That is what Gholston lacks. He can jump and run and lift with the best of them. He proved this at the combine. What he can't do is study film, figure out what his opponent is going to do and train his instincts so he does the right thing when the moment comes. That's what makes players like Revis so great, not strength or agility or whatever. Can MMA training help with that? Maybe, but it doesn't seem like it would help the most in the thing that he needs most.
So far, the only speculation about Gholston not doing MMA training right now is that some random guy said he wanted Gholston to do MMA training. This is turning into less of a story with every post, forgetting the fact that any improvement in his physicality is automatically negated by the fact that he doesn't know how to play football.
Knowing our luck, he'd probably be successful in the MMA and go on to be the greatest fighter of all time.
I dont know how Twitter works, but im guessing that wasnt Glazer responding to the guy saying "I want him to big time he would really benefit" ? Either way thats definitely what the OP is talking about
That doesn't say that he refused to train or do you see something there that I do not? It just say that Jay would like to train him. But if he's doesn't train with jay for what ever reason "she" should be traded or just released. (that would be my last ray of hope for him)
That was Glazer repeating what someone said to him. It could mean any number of things. As I said before, it still wouldn't matter. Any extra training he gets at this point is moot because he still doesn't know his position.
Only benefits from my point of view of MMA to Football is endurance, aggression, and possibly being more agile/flexible(diving for a RB's leg whatever) Also to loosen him up, and get your mind off football while training.
Football is exactly where his mind needs to be right now. I haven't seen one instance of the sport getting caught in his mind yet.
