You want to give him a cookie and a medal every time he takes a crap too? Why the hell do I have to settle for sub par mediocrity? If the guy sucks, we as fans have the right to bash him. The guy was drafted 6th overall and has been EXTREMELY disappointing. I am so sick of these threads praising this guy cuz he had 3 tackles. THREE?!?! If you want the Gholston bashers to quit talking, then stop making multiple threads about him EVERY WEEK
This has been a problem for us Jet fans for years. We've been conditioned to accept mediocrity and old habits die hard. Gholston and Clowney both are prime examples of settling for anything we get instead of demanding excellence.
I was hot and cold on Gholston yesterday. Right now he's playing at the level of a depth player who is given too many assignments. They ran Chris Johnson right at him a few times with some very frustrating results, but in pass rushing duties, he was able to help collapse the pocket well enough. I can't wait until Pace comes back.
Not sure what role if any Gholston will have when Pace returns in two weeks. He certainly won't be starting, he's not now.
I'll go ahead and say it, I LOVE these Gholston threads. He sucks...he's ok... he's improving...fuck you...no fuck you...terrible pick...long term project. VG is the reason message boards exist.
I wont go all and praise the guy, but i must say im not nervous everytime he's on the field. He starting to play like he can hold his own, probably will never be worthy of the money he's getting but looks like he will be able to add good depth for us
I rewatched the game and Gholston was not perfect. That play where he saves the TD probably was his play at the line, BUT I don't see how you can watch him and NOT BE EXCITED. He is much much better than last year and he's even starting to show some hustle and aggression. He is GREAT at coming off blocks, he plays EXCELLENT team D on running plays - he only let Chris Johnson get outside him once. Speaking of that one play, that was where I see his biggest problem lying. He plays team D, but it seems like he is watching the play rather than trying to make it. On the play I mention, someone screamed into the backfield and got a hand on Johnson. Johnson seemed to lose his balance and Gholston seemed ot think the play was over, so he kind of let up, too. Johnson regains his balance, Gholston is out of position, it's a ten yard gain. Along the same lines: He was repeatedly able to string plays out, BUT he never pushed his man back. Now maybe that was the plan against Johnson. Don't get too aggressive, just keep him ehind the line and wait for your help, BUT I'd like to see him string plays out AND push them back. It can be done. So anyway, I think Gholston is a year away from being a PLAYUH, as long as he can get even more aggression and desire. I think he's still getting comfortable and when he does, we will see more of that aggression.
I think he did fine. As mentioned, he saved the game by not giving up on the play and tackling Johnson & made a couple of other tackles. He also is not a bad bullrusher. The guy blocking him is usually being pushed back towards his own QB, as was the case on the interception. So Gholston was a big part of the game last Sunday.
he is the definition of a pure pass rusher it just sucks that his skills haven't' translated from college , i mean you seen videos he absolutely wrecked big ten offensive lines
I didn't get to see half of the game, but it's great to hear that Gholston had a pretty good game. I'm trying to keep hope that he'll develop in to a stud, so any progression is good.
People treat this guy like Yankees fans treat Arod. No matter what he does, its not good enough, everyone praises Rex to the high heavens, he said if he cant fix Gholsoton, no one can. Its been 3 weeks and every game has been a touch better. Give Rex and VG a chance here, he doesnt look lost out there anymore
But this isn't true. John Abraham and Dwight Freeney are pure pass rushers. Remember how Abe used to fly upfield? And remember how teams used to run at the spot he vacated because he was too busy getting to the QB to defend the run? Gholston is not that kind of player. He seems to be slowly developing into a well-rounded DE. I'm still disappointed in Gholston because I wanted a pass rusher when we got him, and we still need that DeMarcus Ware or James Harrison coming off the edge, but I'm not going to start screaming "Trade him! Cut him!" just because Gholston might be turning into a well-rounded DE instead of a pass-rushing OLB.
I couldn't watch the game. Was this the case in this contest also? This has been my argument and dissatisfaction with his past performances.
Not a good camparison, imo. AROD's problem is that he is 'all world' during the regular season and a 'pumpkin' when it's playoff series time. Gholston's problem is that he is a full time pumpkin. And a ghostly pumpkin, at that.
