over/under on the number of gholston threads started in the next few hours to rant about his three tackles??? i say 2
He had a big time game today and helped the team immensely and this is all that can be pointed out? Cmon. Mount Vernon was a big part of the stand. Calvin Pace comes back in 2 weeks but Gholston was doing things week 1 and week 3 and has been alright.
Some people will never be happy with whatever he does. They took some sort of sick joy out of commenting on how bad he is. Gholston is probably never going to be a dominant pass rusher, but I'm confident that Rex will develop him into a solid part of this defense. Regardless of where he was drafted, he's going to be here for a few more years and the fans need to be positive.
OK in that case I see what you mean. IMO, part of the reason he was so close the CJ to make the tackle was because he was blocked 10 yards down field before CJ got the corner.
Gholston seemed semi-competent today. Unfortunately when he, Coleman and Smith are all on the field at the same time, a black hole appears in the end zone that drags the offense down the field.
I agree. If he wasn't already being pushed in that direction, he wouldn't have caught up. He got blown by for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter and was easily handled by a tight end for most of the game. It seemed as though the Titans ran to his side whenever he was on the field. I watched most of the defensive snaps in slow motion after the game, anticipating this thread. Gholston is always a half-step to a full step slower off the ball than the rest of the DL/LBs.
Too bad we mostly play a 3-4 in Rex's defense. Gholston may do well in 4-3 situations and played well today. I still hate investing huge amount of money and a Rd 1..#6 player in a situational role. Make Lemonade when you have Lemons.
i noticed that too. he had a meh day. White's TD is in part of Gholston being easily wiped out off tackle without any fight back from him... and then 2 missed tackles on the fat boy.
I think I've seen him play some 3-4 end as well...if he adds ~20-25 lbs I think he'd be a pretty effective 3-4 end he has great strength
Then u should rewatch in slowmo with ur glasses on this time. Gholston was taken out of that play by leonhard and then leonhard missed the tackle. On the johnson run he was double teamed and got off the blocks and did a good job catching up to the play. Gholston does enough wrong to be bashed about, but there is no need to make shit up. Just sayin
Wrong. Unless Leonard was wearing a 71 Oilers jersey, looks like Gholston was easily pushed out of the fuckin way on that play by an Oiler/Titan.
totally agreed. and i think once pace comes back and he will actually do better. He will be in a 3 point stance but also lined up at LB. He's finding his niche on this team and is taking strides. Patience is going to be key with him. You know, even before last year started people were saying they don't expect much from him for 3 years, because he will need time to develop and transition into his new position.
Gholston was coming up behind white, leonhard came in, missed the tackle and caught gholston at the knees, gholston had a hand on whites jersey he may or may not have made the tackle if leonhard doesn't wiff the tackle and take him out of the play, who knows. i know how much u love gholston, im just trying to keep it real.
the way this board bashes players when we win is insane. it's gonna be fucking great when we lose our first game. i can hardly wait.
