Call me cynical, but I think he goes where the money is. Not to mention, after playing his entire home career indoors, Miami would be a hell of an easier transition than Decembers in Meadowlands, Orchard Park and Foxboro. As he gets older, I'd imagine that would be a consideration. Plus, he'd play. A couple bad games in New York and I don't think even Peyton would be immune from hearing calls to bench him. Look, I'm just playing devil's advocate. I think acquiring Peyton Manning would be fantastic - as much as I've hated the guy in the past. I just can't see it.
Wait 11-5, I thought Manning would guarantee us a 16-0 record , 11-5 may not even win the division. After the Jets beat Mia on Sunday Sanchez will be 9-7 so the great Manning over the sucky Sanchez would only improve the Jets 2 games.
I think it's more than fair to think he'd go with the money. It's the stickiest part of the entire argument that we could somehow have both QB's on the 2012 roster. The elements argument is another good one. I tend to think a guy with his money would go for the legacy builder over the money, but that's just an opinion. I don't think we'd be able to compete with a San Fran wanting him either ...
Hes a Sanchez troll I'm starting to think he's a pat fan. Everything he says is wrong when he tries to argue a point.
Your not caring what the terms are for Manning indicates how baseless your argument is. So the Jets should pay him $30 million a season? $40 million? More? Winning in the NFL means managing the salary cap, not blowing it all on one old injured player. Nobody ever won a SB overpaying a future HOFer who was at the end of his career. As was stated above, this is Namath to the Rams, Unitas to the Chargers, Campbell to the Saints, Franco Harris to the Seahawks, Dorsett to the Broncos, Lott to the Jets etc................
And to those complaining that the Indy oline is much better, they have given up 35 sacks this year while we have given up 37. With Peyton they only had 16 last year, see what a difference maker the guy really. His team also went from 14-2 2 seasons ago to probally 2-14 this year. Guy will be more important on our team then Revis Christ himself.
The injury factor and age factor is going to go against him. I will make you a bet, if he gets over 25 mil I agree to get banned from this forum and never come back, if he gets under you get banned from this forum and never comeback? Deal?
FTR, P.Manning is a better player at his position than all those players you mentioned combined. His quick release alone will alleviate the crappy oline play from guys like W.Hunter.
Honestly, I think these numbers are far off... You dont think the Jags, with a new owner and wanting more interest from the fans, and the ideal QB situation of an understudy wouldnt throw money at Manning? Or the Redskins who have a decent shot at winning a the division, who also threw over 10 million at Santonio... Or the seahawks? I dont want to go through ever team that could use a QB, but do you honestly think he wont get paid more than 15 million when its all said and done? I've agreed with many of your posts and think you are a knowledgable poster, but I really dont agree with your take on the money situation here...
25 million a year is such an outrageously high number to begin with. I hope we don't have to wait that long for you to get banned from this forum.
Mannings OL from a year or two ago is incomparable to this years... I dont know how many times I've seen him just stand there for countless seconds and pick apart a defense.
Ya #'s speak for themselves, last 2 years manning sacked 29 times total, this year Colts gave up 35 sacks. Manning has a ability that Sanchez can only dream off and thats to throw the ball out of bounds or see the rush coming and change the play. Shotty even if he stays will be useless because Manning calls his own plays. Mannings football Iq is 5x higher then Sanchez's. Am I the only one thats not dellusional?
Excellent point. If the players have the leverage to get the cash, most guys will get as much as they can. Very rarely do you see players give up real cash (renegotiate a lower total deal) to help the team and allow them to bring in other talent under the cap. You might see people take less to stay with a team (instead of getting cut) or renegotiate to help the team, but rarely do they actually taking less overall cash. If Manning didn't care about the money why would he sign such a huge contract when he knew that he wasn't 100% healthy. If the Colts release him, Manning will likely go to the highest bidder where he he thinks he has a chance. That doesn't necessarily mean that the Jets are the front runner.
Well the money part is the most difficult thing. I think he'd go with the better team over more money which would rule out teams like Jax and Was IMO. I could very well be wrong. How much money is a future HOF QB who could be done for good with one hit worth? That's the question. I don't know the answer. If someone wants to pay him $15 million a year and they have a team he thinks he can win with we probably can't get him and keep Sanchez.
You realize that his release was slowed down and so was the velocity on the ball because of his NECK injury? And will be slower because of his injury... Sigh
Still better then what we will see from Sanchez next year. Newsflah Manning is 35 not 45 just 1 year older then Brady whos still lighting up teams.
Manning did it last year, in fact he requested it when the GM wanted to make him the highest paid player.
I thought of San Fran. Would be a great landing spot for him. Also, if the rumors of a someone poaching a team like the Jaguars and moving them to Los Angeles are true, what better way to start the new gig than with Peyton Manning? It might preclude any more thoughts of a ring, but it carries it's own special perks.
